El Donna comes out of the water this weekend for an underwater check up and repair a Marlin Induced hole in the hull ...lol.. after coming back from up North and while shes out for the weekend I thought I might as well chuck some underwater LEDs in.
 
So the question is Colour ???????? White, Blue, Green ?
 
From peoples experiences what is the best Underwater colour , and  in particularly for attracting baitfish ?
 
 
Im thinking Blue Light ?

I've got Blue they definitly attract bait fish, don't no if one of the other colours attracts baitfish better though.  I was told by one Rocket Scientist that Blue looks like a lit up marlin so it will attract other marlin but is not very good for attracting baitfish because they think theres a feeding marlin about, amazing what some guys come up with.

Used the Blue and Green recently tied up to the wharf at Kingfish Lodge and found the blue did the job better at getting a bite form the bait fish. I don't know what to put that down to but both colours brought them up just the blue seemed to work better that night. I have been told not to run them together as they tend to cancel each other out.

I've had white blue and red interchangeable on a few boats and couldn't really tell the difference between the blue and the white for catching bait either in the dock or out drifting.

Blue look the best IMO

I have a green LED baitfish light stick, looks sexy lowered into the water, attracts baitfish...reckon it's just what you like the look of really.

Lots of illuminating responses..... Smile
Lights attract small invertibrae krill etc, which in trun attract the bait fish. I dont think the bait fish turn up to eat a certain colour light? White would be my pick for attracting baitfish food. Its bright meaning they can see their prey? Blue for attracting smurfs and red for hookers

As I understand it after talking with the guys from Specialized Lighting (LED Suppliers) Blue is the last colour to be lost from the colour spectrum and will travel the furthest under water, I'd go blue.

OK thanks for that Guys. Ill run with the Blue and report back on how instalation went  etc after the weekend.
 
Thank God for the Red Light up in the flybridge. Suppose I just need some dancing girls now ...lol

They aren't cheap, are they....  the Hella ones look the business... solid bronze trough hull fittings with heavy duty lenses...  but at $3-500 a pop its a bit steep.  Does anyone know of any less financially draining options?  might have to make up some home made versions...

As some other fella said, blue is the last coulour to be filtered out of the water so will attract bait from a lot further away.  White is the 2nd best, but white is made up of every colour in the spectrum so can do funny things at times...

hey Jimbo how does $12 sound and they are wired up as well and very brightWink

also got a big bugger for $75 lights up and area about 50feet around the boat at night.

Technichal equipment sells underwater LED Rope light. Have it as long as you want where you want,  no need to penetrate the hull below the waterline, you could even troll a ten metre length behind the boat. Not as powerfull in one direction But bright as all hell . Depends what you want to do. Dont belive in them my self,  try telling the americans that though. Whats the idea with them for catching bait or looking pretty at the wharf ? Or attracting tons of swordfish to the back of the boat, tell me that Because theres nothing natural about them ??

Supercheap auto has some great LED lights, and aren't the submersible LED trailer lights OK to mount simply?

ive got  hella led truck tail lights under water in my swimming pool,  12 months and they still work mint
