This was jigged by my mate Kil Song from the US.  Kil is a regular jigger aboard the Cascade to the 3 Kings.  This fish was one of two that he caught, the other was released. 
 
Now we know that the ultimate sportfish eats metal! Ouch

far out and i have enough trouble staying hooked up on 80's, what hooks are they using?

I'm not sure exactly the hooks Kil was using but he normally uses treble hooks on those particular jigs.  Those jigs are designed for Tuna but effective on nearly everything.

that is an awesome feat by no stretch of the imagination......you'd have to be fairly confident that the buggars where in good numbers before contemplating jigging as a legit method to target swords.....do you know if it was foul hooked Chris?

I was under the impression that swords are "slash and retrieve" feeders, opting to "stun" their meals before eating them....

No idea about the hooking Kez but Kil goes like to target various species with jigs only.  We report when the catch report is published.

mean fish,chrisw do you no what sort of depth he was fishing in.top effort.
As my wife catches bigger fish than me, does that make me a bad fisherman or a great skipper.......

No idea BF but Kil specialises in Tuna jigging off the East Coast of USA and I think this was a lucky by catch - 2 in one evening.  Where they jig is not usually the depths we associate with Broadies here in NZ.  Kil was using 200-220g jigs so I would guess a depth less than 100m.

is it common to jig for tuna at night over their.does any one jig at night here for tuna or kings
As my wife catches bigger fish than me, does that make me a bad fisherman or a great skipper.......
