Banana Boat, sorry for the late reply, I use Okuma X-Factor 6-10kg softbait rods, absolutely brilliant for 2-4 kg line, I have 3 of them. The reel is a Okuma VS40, no longer made but awesome drags, I also have three of them, with about 10 spools, plus another two reels for spare parts as you can't get parts anymore. I also use these outfits for general soft baiting, plus when chasing terakihi even in 90m of water.

Basically any good quality sofbait rod will work well as they are all quite tippy and any good softbait spinning reel will work, ideally get a reel which is easy to get spare spools for, so you have multi purpose outfits.

The harbour has been absolutely firing lately. Reports of bins full becoming regular with good quality fish.

Indeed great looking fish. Good fishing and no weed! I thought all the free water of late might have had an impact on the harbour - appears not. A lot of logs etc though

I launched at Tanners Point. Ramp and surrounding area was thick with silt. A small digger arrived as we packed up to give it a bit of a clean up.

I agree Kitno the harbour is firing and I'm not much of a harbour fisherman, both the entrance and the top of the harbour have been good to me.

Yesterday's mission only took one and a half hours to get two limits and a few tags out. 1.2m deep in a narrow channel was the spot to be. Everything we threw at them got scoffed. Snapper range between 33 to 52cm.

Mrs caught this 55cm on Saturday (her birthday) just been. We targeted the 5:30pm low but the wind had picked up a bit more than I prefer, so we didn't stay long.

Nice day out yesterday fishing the low
Got my limit in about 2 hours 48 - 55cm
Great condition
Gave one away to some kids at the boat ramp fishing for sprats - their eyes nearly popped out of their head
Cheers

Got these last Thursday morning. It took longer to drive to the ramp than it did to catch them.

A bit of an update on how the harbour has been fishing. There's still good numbers of snapper coming in with lots of them being over 50cm. The water has cooled down a bit, but they're still hanging around. They're in really good condition at the moment, fat bellys leaving a greasy looking knife after filleting. A few picks from recent trips.

Best harbour snapper for this season went 59cm. Probably got atleast a dozen over 55cm
