Well I have decided after been taken for a ride by a charter boat operater in Kaikoura with the Lowrance combo unit I bought off him, that it will be cheaper and better to buy a separate GPS chartplotter, anyone got anything reasonable for sale?

Hogdog - what is up with your unit, and what model is it? I know the Lowrance stuff reasonably well.

nothing in particular wrong with it, just not what I had been promised I was buying, as a fish finder its good, but to get the GPS side of things sorted was going to be $600 plus by the time I got a card and antenna which makes a new unit look pretty good, so I have sold it as a fishfinder to a guy which it will do fine

I assume it was a LCX 15, 16 , or 18 model. They are actually very good chartplotters in that price range (don't need to display the FF side if not being used). Personally I don't like the Lowrance fishfinder technology in that generation of units, but their chartplotting is as good as any and better than most in their price range. The Eagle range are basically a rebranded Lowrance unit and worth looking at for a good deal. Some of them may have slightly lower screen resolution screens than the Lowrance equivalents, but it won't really affect your use of it.
