What's your recommendation for rock fishing?

 
 Price is an issue.
 
I'm thinking of a new rod for my birthday in June, I already have a 15' surf rod, a 2 pce 12' surf rod and a 6' 10-15kg rod that I use now. Any ideas must be considered that I use egg beaters.

shimano beastmaster 10ft 10-15kg... reasonably bullet proof, haven't heard alot of bad stuff about them... good value for money and 10ft is an ideal length
otherwise maby one of the kilwell models. might be a bit more expensive though

TARGETING ====> Snapper, Kings, and most other larger fish and able to handle sharks.
REEL =========> Kilwell RXB80 Bait runner, Maybe in the future when I win lotto a Stella.
BUDGET ======> Up to $250.

Thanks Levcat, Been looking at a Beastmaster 12'. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Totally agree with Lev those beastmaster rock rods are great bang for buck and will do all you need on a good budget.

...and you can get a kit now to convert the good old 6500b baitcaster into a Stella clone for a fraction of the price Wink

Never used a beastmaster but seems to be the go for alot of members here as I have seen other people swearing by them as well. My only suggestion would be to make sure you have a good shop round Matt to ensure you get the best deal. For $250 you should get a good combo for the price rod and reel.
Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

10-12ft is the most practicable off the rocks will give lift and power when needed beastmaster are a good price, killwell also do some good rods as well.

For the budget price, tho a heavy rod. The power stick never let me down for years

Beastmaster is relatively cheap compared to your budget? What about one of the Kilwell 'Rocky' rods? Don't know anything about them. JK may be able to shed some light - I think he has some Kilwell rods.
I have a 10ft beastmaster and its been pretty bullet proof.

yep would say the beastmaster and you should have some change out  of yr budget other than that you could always check out the mighty t/m for a 2nd hand one

I was wondering about that too Moocha, I was in the local tackle shop (Norcross) and they looked at me with a straight jacket look. 'Spose I'll have to ask w.s.laurie, when I can actually afford one at least.

Mathew  i picked up a marlin 11ft single piece rod for overhead  today of T/M $20 so they  are there should do fine off the bricks med action

This is what the  Shimano :.au website has to say about the 6500B upgrade. There could be a different upgrade which moocha was talking about.

"Upgrade your Baitrunner reel for heavy duty style fishing with an upgraded drag and a stella type round or ergonomic handle (these upgrades are also available individually)."

Makes me wonder how the graphite frame of the 6500B would cope under increase drag. I suppose the new drag could just be smoother and more reliable.

The beastmaster rods are ok but would really recommend the kilwell rockys if you are prepared to spend the extra $$. The rocky is only 9ft so not as long as they others but a high quality rod that is just awesome for brick fishing
