The set up i use off the rocks is the shimano 6500 baitrunner matched with a shimano 7 foot raider 10 -15kg rod i use 40lb mono and do most of my fishing around the east cape at lottins point. have caught many good size kingi's up there and the set up i have described hasnt let me down once  i bought rod and reel for  $199 money well spent.Wink

Just picked the CD rod up and yes it has the gunmetal guides, just gotta get a reel now!
 
Top man who I bought it from he threw in some traps and a brand new rocky rod holder, deal of the century!

All my CD's had gunmetal anodized guides no hard-chrome plating never seen the CD 8' 15-24kg LBG rod fitted with that sorta hardware, got a piccy of the rod smelly?  Still a sweet deal either way straight up!
Choice of reel would come down to personal preference or how deep your wallet is as all the reels mentioned above will work (I use a tld50).

So you were the winner of the CD rock rod, Great rod but despise those guides, im sure they are hard chrome (correct me if i'm wrong) which seems silly on an high spec'd rod.
Sure did go up in price, $80-$200 pretty damn quick, likewise i'm sure with the rest of his gear - TLD30, 50, and other CD rod
 
I'd go with the SLD30, if it were me.
