Super Spring Snapper

Howdy All!

Well, the way spring kicked off it looked like the bad weather had been kicked for touch well and truly! Early Spring saw us out wide a lot with calm still days, the water temp getting up above 16 degrees and deep blue water.

The kingi's played ball and we had plenty of kingfish in the 17-20kg range, most caught jigging in about 80m of water at the Aldermen Islands.

Over the last two weeks the wind has been blowing, limiting our options a little, but we still managed to sneak out wide last week, and the kings are still around.

There is some good snapper fishing in close, you just need to move around and find the fish, which are in roe and schooling up. Birds are a good indicator that there are snapper around. The weekend last beeen we struggled to catch a fish until we came across a big area of gannets who were feeding on baitfish pushed right in close to the reef behind Slipper Island. Fishing with GULP softbait we pulled a nice line of snapper from 3m of water, the biggest going 14 pound.

So there are plenty of fish around. And in these windy conditions, don't be shy about tucking in around the corner from the wind, often you will find the wind has pushed bait plus snapper and kingis into the shallows, making things nice and easy for you!!
