Is the stradic better compared to say a twinpower 5000HG or a Tica Talisman TG8000?

The Twinpower would be better but its not really an entry level reel and I doubt you will get one for $400, also, a 5000 size shimano wont hold 300m of 40lb braid. I have a Stradic 5000fi and it has exactly 200m of 30lb braid.
Never used Tica Talisman, I like Shimano

I can get a used Twin power for 340 Spooled with braid.  Im guessing the numbers eg 2000, 5000,8000 are spool sizes ? So I should look for the biggest one ? cheers.... sorry im new to spin... have plenty of overhead reels!

2x for the finnor
They are a simple reel but work well and fit in your price range/ line capacity requirements.
Love my offshore 8500

Hi Lars
6000 is on the small side IMHO, look for 8000, 10000 or 14000 in Shimano, 4500 5000 in Diawa and prob 6500 - 8000 in Penn.

Yes those Fin-nors are bullet proof you could pull up a shark and punch it to death with the reel, but they are heavy and casting all day will kill you.

I'm running and old Stradic 8000 FI, good retrieve and 13kg drag. It is only entry level though.

Yes the number is the size of the reel.
The size you want depends of where your fishing and what your hoping to catch. A 20,000 reel generally has more drag and has a bigger capacity but if you only ever fish in the gulf its over kill. You would have more fun with a 5000 size reel. If you and using it to pitch a bait to a marlin you want more drag and capacity.
A Shimano 8000 size reel will hold 300m of 30-40lb braid and most have 10kg+ of drag which is a hell of alot to hold over the tip of a 7foot+ rod.
For stickbaits I have a Stradic 5000fj on a 30lb rod and a Stradic 8000fi on a Tcurve, both have there uses but when Im around the Auckland area I only take the smaller set.

Just re-read you 1st post, its a 10-15kg rod, 6000 size is sweet, a big Fin-nor would be a terrible reel on that rod IMO

+1 for Stradic 8000fi. I love mine, got a faster retrieve ratio than the newer fj aswell (5.7:1 vs 4.8:1), heaps of stopping power. Usually come with 2 spools as well.

yes kinda why the 5500OS is the way to go and not heavy as has been mentioned, more drag than the shimano no plastic now thats a bonus and bullet proof well they have faults like others, line capacity is great whether 30 or 50lb braid and even use it to live bait marlin sharks and kings yip a great little reel but not a shimano ay.

Having a clutch to stop any back play should be considered when purchasing a reel for stickbaiting and popping, doesnt matter what brand ( despite BA's sniping) There is probably a reason most people who do lots of this style of fishing use the gear they do......

Yo BA Iv got nothing against Fin-nor at all. Its like I could put my boat in with an old tractor, slow, heavy, old tech, but it will pull anything. But I use my car, cause its easier, and more comfortable, and more practical and newer tech and just as reliable, and it will still pull anything I need it to. Each to there own tho ay

The best value by far for this at the moment is on the back page of Go-fish website under shimano reels.
Sorry BA and Eynon -not debating what good reel Finors are for the money and possibly taking a marlin -and yes they are good -but go to Go-fish website put in "shimano spinning reels" and go to last reel listed.

"And no - Enyon - the reel is not meant for big sharks" but pretty cool kingi reel for general jigging and topwater.

Hi, if your looking to topwater and strayline as you post, it would be the shimano thunnus CI4. It may be a bit to slow on the retrieve for genuine topwater but it will be very difficult to find a true strayline and topwater reel, but maybe just outside the price bracket?
I caught 6 great snapper straylining and 2 80-90cm kings on stickbaits with my thunnus 4000 one evening this summer with 6-8kg rod, tough little reel.
The twin power you mention is a great deal if tidy cond and correct size.
The stradics are great also, I have a older model 5000 that caught 23 longtail tuna in one session, the drag burned to almost fibre and still functioned, now with upgraded drag, sooo sweeet.
So many choices out there and most people have a personal preference to brands, just make sure its the right size, line retrieve etc for the application and mostly whether you are casting all day or only occasionally will impact your choice, hope this may be some help :)
