HOW DO YOU FIT 1000 yds of 37kg Line on a TIAGRA 50 Wide???
 This is the new Cortland Hollow Splicable Super Braid, 37kg pre test
SEE BELOW::
 
 
This is what 600 yds of Super braid 37kg looks like on a Tiagra 50 Wide, now for the top shot"
 
 
This is the connection of Braid to Mono top shot : two metres of splice & 3 whippings:
 
 
We now have 50W reels with genuine 1000yds of 37kg line ready for just about anything? Drags are upgraded to LRS , without the weight or size of 80W reels,
Just thought this may be of interest for anyone using 50W reels & wanting to use 37kg line,
Any comments welcome, good bad or Sh-T ???

You may need to check that the braid test is less than 37Kg or it may not be legal for competitions or record claims.
 
Also I think the NZBGFC have not allowed braid to be used in the Nationals.

 he mentioned its 37kg pre test. which im pretty sure means each roll is individually tested

How did you spliced the braid and the mono together?? I've used a plaited join, but it came up rather thick.

Hi all,
Black Pearl, yes this is pre test 37kg Superbraid, I understand re some clubs & contests not allowing Superbraid lines, perhaps we can change their thoughts when this is line tested?
Jakepitsville, yes Penn 50 W have approx same capacity as Tiagra 50W
Atis, we have spliced mono top shot up inside the braid 2 mtrs, as this super braid is now hollow you end up with very low profile connection, same as you do for Dacron/Mono connections. Using very thin Black Widow 37kg pre test mono for Max capacity, also can use Suffix as an alternative 37kg pre test .
Any other thoughts fellas???

steve.... yanks been topshotting with that hollow braid for years, mostly Jerry Brown brand. It certainly is very fine in diameter for its strength and top quality.
The pretest dacron i get in from the USA is 2x  times thinner than mono of the same breaking strain so you get plenty on a small reel.Wink (you did it originally on my Tiagras Steve,rememberLOL)

Hi Steve, I have known about this Cortland braid for quite a while now and thought it would be great, the one important item not mentioned is the cost.
 
The prices I have seen are US$169 (NZ$270) for 600 yards or US$316 (NZ$510) for 1200 yards or US$654 (NZ$1055) for 2500 yards, plus any postage and GST from the states. This stuff is dam expensive.
 
Steve what is the cost of 600 yards of this stuff, or ideally what price is 800 yards as that is the length I am interested in.

IF you are worried about IGFA, dont they only test the first  50 yards which will be the top shot and that is pre test mono ?

Great idea there Steve.
I use the Cortland greenspot for puka and love it. They make a great product. Just out of interest does the black widow test close to 37 or is it similar to other thin pretest nylons and breaks at considerably less than 37?

Woodstock brand from USA, been on for 4yrs and caught marlin to 286kg with no trouble so far.Put 800m on and still put 300m mininum of 37kg Ande on top with heaps of room for windons.
Steve spooled them for me on his machine originally, i have redone mono topshots myself since.

Been there for years, Steve. That Duel 6/o you serviced has 1200 yards of FINS 37 kg braid (tested as legal, in NZ) and a top shot of 100 metres of mono. Also have 2 6/0 reels with 600 yrds of braid and 600 metres of mono on top (24 kg). 
Have had this set-up for years and don't do competitions. Awesome for stand-up..small reel - high capacity if that big blue comes along.
