Hi Guys, just got some new toys to play with on my next trip from Gourocks

On review, I guess I should have got a shot holding one in hand for scale, but the fish are about 25cm long I'd say the squid similar.. in fact I guess that 250/200gm part on the packaging would refer to 250mm .

They are horrendously expensive though, geeez, the squid are...oh, $25, which is up there, but the fish are a horrific $10 ea!
Hell, I could afford a few more at that price! :-)

I would say those top bibbed softbaits would get the grumpiest coral trout all barred up if you were able to put one in front of him

so would a chunk of squid but new toys are soo much more fun

CA   I have used the squid on snapper and caught 40 on one which is still good for another 40.   I also used it trolling for albacore where it was a cracker easily out fishing conventional feathered tuna lures.    This how I bought mine.   I cut the droppers off and stuffed 2-3 small ball sinkers into the hollow body for a bit of weight  and threaded the trace through those so that the hook was inside the skirt of tentacles.    No more Gulp for me.   BTW all my fishing is done from a kayak.

have you tried trolling them? - no I've got too many trollable other things that work, but I'm sure those would as well....but for the "spinning" which I'm sure you could stop easy enough

CA   The bigger ones are 5".    There are smaller ones too but I have only used the bigger size.    No question about it they are deadly both jigged and trolled.    Next year when I revisit Papa Aroha I shall stick a cigrette filter into the hollow body and charge that with a shot of tuna oil.    Costs bugger all, can be renewed with a new one regularly and easily and would outsmell any commercial brew.   That of course depends on whether or not scent does make much difference in soft bait jigging??????
