Hey, I'm new and starting out my land based fishing in Auckland and looking for spots. I'm heading out with a mate this Saturday off snapper rock (Beachlands - looked good from Google maps). Only thing i'm wondering is if the tide gets too low around there. It looks like all water heads out on low tide.

Is it worth fishing there 3hrs before low tide? Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers!

Have heard of some good fish caught from there but they are few and far between. Best option would be to berley for baitfish and put a livebait out for a kingy. Some very respectable ones have been caught there.
Yes, all water is gone at low tide. Most people fish it over high. Please put your rubbish in the bin at the top of the track as there is usually a bit of a mess left behind by other fishos.

If you follow the coast from Snapper right around to the point off the sth end of Duder regional park.. there are many little rocky points, breakwaters around ramp,  couple wharfs.
Most spots fished across the higher side of tides... including kings cruising thru.
These are also popular with many at night.

The snapper come up and feed on the crabs shell fish in 2 to 3m water which is also popular with boats ...

At the moment I dont know if the coast rd is open yet after the 2nd lot of floods.
 Wasnt a couple days ago.

Some of the land-based shark specialists target massive bronzewhalers off there.
But we have found - from a dinghy - that places with a bit of weed-covered structure, or on the muddier flats with crabs etc, are where the very shallow snapper are in the area from Musick Pt east to Maraetai. Not so much over plain sand. And obviously low light is better.

Thanks for all the responses, it's helped!

High Tides at 3am and I wouldnt have a line in until 6am so I think too much water will have gone by then.

I'll think about a new location somewhere on that coastline maybe a little further round as suggested.

So keen to get out there. Still looking good my first legal snapper!

Cheers 👍

I would try the Duders peninsula - which you can access at low tide from the beach, or go over the trails on the headland.
Slightly deeper water, and some decent fish get caught in the Tamaki Strait out from there. On the Clevedon side, they get some very nice fish. One of the older guys at H&F Botany loves that bay off the river mouth.
As Steps said, the shoreline around Omana etc has some nice little rocky headlands that should have snapper at the right time of day.
If you look on a chart, it's generally pretty shallow right along that coast, not easy to access deeper water.
