Old topic, but a tales from a rest experience. Went out a few days ago with the intention it berleying up in the shallows as there was little swell around. Didn’t bring bait, there was an abundance of Kahawai the day before. (Actually, I did bring 1 piece of mackerel which cooked in the ice cream tub during the morning).
Of course, we get out and no sign of KY anywhere. So I thought I’d anchor up anyway, they’ll come to the berley. Just use a slow pitch jig, that will work. An hour later, only undersized snaps on the jigs. Then out of desperation I put the soft bait outfit together and all change. A KY, now on board, big chunks of bait out the back and dinner well sorted. But we staying softbaiting too, and could do no wrong! It was the key to success. We would have been screwed otherwise
