Hey welcome fish3rd00d! Try fishing just inside the harbour off the beach by the toilet block. When heading out of town to Manu Bay take a sharp right into Riria Kereopa Memorial Drive. You Can only fish about 1.5 hours either side of low tide as the water really moves. High tide no good. Caught some nice trevs to 7lb here and also some snaps, kahawai, gurnard etc. Use a flasher rig with big break out sinker with small hooks, shellfish bait would be the go if you can get some. The wharf is good,its best fished on a incoming tide that coincides with the change of light,there are good fish in the harbour just need to be patient,the spot already suggested @ the harbour entrance can be productive,i have caught gurnard,snapper,trevally,kahawai,sharks & had some fun with some stingrays,same as the wharf best fished the last couple hours & a hour or 2 of a a high tide @ the change of light early morning or evening.I haved walked around the rocks from whale bay & its looks worth trying with lots of berley & stray lining with fresh bait, but you would have to keep in contact with your bait all the time to avoid snagging the bottom,personally i have not tried it as i have a boat but it could be worth giving it a go.You dont know until you try.There are fish in the harbour just have to persevere to get thru the little bait pickers.

Hey Mate yes lots of people have drownd at Ruapuke rock as they get a big fish and it gets snaged in the rocks go down to get it and rouge waves was them off the rocks and get sucked under and its tickets for them take care when you fish this spot !! As for the harbour some door knoking may be the ticket to some good spots and may be some local no were helps but yes the fish is there. If you fish the enterance fish incoming tide as far see words as you can works best for me the rest you will have to look see for your self good luck and be safe

Have fished Rags Harbour on a few occasions, and have always done pretty well on kahawai, pannie snapper and solid trevs. I've always kayaked across to the far side, about 500m West of the farm house. Park your 'yak and fish from the beach, deep water straight off the sand.
