other coast bro, but youre right. Was like going to the boat show on water! Managed 3 snapper 44-54 cm. No swell, gentle breeze, heaps of islands to shelte r behind. Can't wait for my next western adventure where the only boat youll see is a sun refkectionoff a distant screen and you can count cray pots on one hand, go hard!

Went out Manu this morn for the Manu bay comp, got to the ramp at 6am ,bout 4 boats already there went up to pay my entry fee and the lady told me the comp was cancelled due to the weather!!! Tui! I thought!looks good to me,but I guess swellmap put a lot of people of and of course you need a crowd for a good comp so that's that!
left the ramp and headed north with the plan to fish in close for a change, and yes it paid off! 1st spot sat in 10ms of caters baches and deployed 4 straylines with big kahawai slabs from last sun,got a coup jack macs on the sabiki then the strayline took off at super speed, a short fight resulted in a 5kg snapper, this is the spot I thout but 2 hours later and no more snapps we shifted south in to 5 ms of water.Straight away we got hit every drop by snapper from 32 cm to 40cm right under the boat,a few gurny came up in a coup kahawai but no bigger snaps so we pulled the pin and headed futher south .
We sat up tide of a point in 8ms and burleyed back across it,fishing just got better ,heaps of kahawai and snapps to 5lb.We put out huge!slabs of kahawai and skippy heads on 10/0s and even 35cm snaps weredealing to them!every drop!kept more than usual and a few kahawai for the bnb comp coming up at Marsden point and headed back to manu and only 6 trailers at the ramp!sea was good all day in close .Awesome day again!West is best you no the rest!
limit your catch not catch your limit!

In regards to the re scheduling Manu Bay comp, the Raglan sport fishing club is currently looking into holding it 1 day of Easter weekend, that day is yet to be decided.
It was disappointing not to run the comp on Sunday, but we cant collect money and send boats out into the forecasted wind strengths that were due to arrive later that morning.
Nice line up of fish by the way Ramcoed

shot out from manu this morning. Small swell which died off by lunch, replaced by a stiff southeaster and short chop against the flood tide. Big rafts of shearwater off the bar with schools of rat kingies taking jigs. Word on the radio was of a difficult day on the water with some getting a feed and sme not. My family goes hungry tonight!

plenty boats out today tjm. manu bay carpark had 20 trailers plus by 8. Kahawai schools up and down the coast inside 30m. Snapper bite came on with the outgoing 32-42cm with gurnard and a couple of nice tope.Ramp chat suggested some doing well in 40m.Not sure about the tuna situation, sounds like warm water is quite wide still, hopefully the westerlie flow settles down and allows the northern currents to push through.
Sea flat with strong sea breeze in close. Weather looking good for the week, but holidays over......

Out this afternoon, would have liked to have gone early but couldn't get any one together.
Any way out on the water by 3-00, lots of birds, dolphins and bait fish around. Crossed the bar and headed out to 35m. Caught a few large KY but no snapper so we headed out to 50m. Hard fishing but picked up a dozen large Gurnard. At about 6-00 we trolled towards the bar and immediately picked up an Albie.
We trolled for a bout one hour and picked up about a dozen more Albs.
There were Dolphins every where and the Gannets started to dive bomb in a few places just before sun set.
We motored back across the bar and up the side channel to the camping ground just as the sun disappeared which was interesting as there wasn't much water left at this stage. Snapper fishing was poor having only picked up a couple of small ones but the trolling was very good. Spotted a Marlin at around the 55m mark so it will be worth trolling if the weather holds out.
Pictures to follow
