Hi all,as forecast swell map was right on the money sunday! Got to Manu bay ramp at 6.45 sunday , no boats there we were 1st in the water! Tide was nearly full and was a easy launch for my Ramco. My mate Rob and I decided to head out around towards ruapuke to do some straylining in close. On the way around spotted a small piece of foul on the sounder a quick stop resulted in a good Kahawai and a couple reef fish so out to 35ms same spot last time we got onto the snaps and again he pulled the goods!Kept 10 snapper to 3kg,had to sort through heaps of spiny dogs a coup baras and 10 kahawai.having heaps for a feed we headed out to Gannet for a troll and a jig for kingis.Rapalas never got hit and all our jigging produced was a big blue maomao foul hooked jig was longer than it too! having failed but had a good look around Gannet we headed back into a glassy sea to Manu bay where the retrieve was perfect,no swell or wind.mint. Only a dozen or so boats at ramp carpark, thout there would of been heaps more having perfect conditions?maybe to cold for some! WEST IS BEST!

Well it was an early start but we made the effort and got to the ramp at sunrise. One other vehicle there which was surprising as the sea was glassy and flat. Out to a not so secret spot and straight into the snapper. Nothing large but all pan size jobs. Tried several spots and ended up with a load of good snapper, a few Tarakihi and some very good gurnards before the sharks and barras located us . Quick trip back to the ramp again very calm conditions and only a few other boats spotted out.

Spent the afternoon in and around Jackson's hiding from the rising easterly firstly in about 30m off the back of the reef where nothing was happening. Moved onto sand inside Jackson's and managed 4 35+cm gurnard and a few skinny ky. Pulse of swell made for interesting return to Manu bay where half the crew ditched the cleanup for a surf. Good to be on the water!

Caught a nice weather window this afternoon. Went out to 30m off Carter's and had a sporadic bite onthe drift. Snapper to 45cm small gurnard.Moved over to Jackson's and a worked a couple of boilups into dusk for some nice ky on plastics.
Another all action high tide surge getting out of Manu bay. Thanks tothe team work of the crew we managed only a couple of scratches!

Had a son surfing who called the trip in. water was quite unsettled after Saturday but progressively got better as the afternoon wore on. The crew were pretty tired by the end fishing in the slop. Having crew in rags all the time makes calling the trip easier with the forecast from last Wednesday on looking pretty crap.

Had aanother arvo fish out from Manu, in between the NE and SW change. Looked pretty stormy to the north with a shifty NW swell coming through. Went round the corner inside Jackson's in about 15m of water. Fished through the shark infestation and our persistence paid off with half a dozen gurnard too 40cm and a heap of ky. The ky are pretty skinny still Looking north, didn't get wet!

Good to see another raglan report! We were in the harbour sat, trying out the new Furuno gp1870.we installed it earlier sat morn. Trolled Rapalas around the harbour for a hour then sat off the pines for next hour only tiny snaps and a trev. there were a few coming back over the bar when we hit the ramp. Furuno was awesome!Next time itl be out deep of Manu!

magic day on the water yesterday. Shot out to about 65m and fished in to Jackson's with four 40cm snapper and a gurnard for 80km on the water. Plus heaps of sharks at every depth. Had a light easterly and outgoing for the trip out with a sw push home on the incoming. Made all those scrappy days well worth it.

That's some traveling but what a day to do it. Nice. So not much difference from 65m to jack sons then species wise? Sharks are bloody good eating so if they are still thick in a months time when I fly back ill surely be loading up! Awesome

Most sharks were 1-2 foot with one decent tope of 8kg. A few small work ups which didn't amount too much, but no kahawai this trip, they're probably heading in close for the whitebait and juvenile feed. There were a few boats heading out to 50 from kawhia and raglan. I was thinking the warm winter might bring the fish in a bit. Didn't see any kingy action and put a jack out under a balloon on Jackson's but never gave it much time. Heard some talk that fish were holding up in 20 to 30m but couldn't verify it. looking south towards taranaki.

Heard some boys got their limit off the manukau on tues in a few hours. In 57m and fish were up to 7kg but for every snap there was a couta or shark.

Anyone care to share some advice on where to go to target snapper. The mates sounder is broken ATM so we will be doing a bit of blind fishing, but anything to get out there as its been a while!
Have heard lots of people say just go out deep to 60m at this time of the year straight out from Manu or a little bit north. Have also heard from people say drive out from Manu out towards Pauanui Point (Ruapuke) and head straight out off that point to what depth the snapper are. Can anyone verify this?
Have had some experience at Jackson's but unsure about this time of the year.

Spent saturday and sunday on the water. Both mint days. Chased a lot of patchy work ups in 50-60m for snapper to 45cm and some fat ky and a 20kg tope.Word at the ramp was try a bit closer but my spots at 30 -40m didn't produce. Sunday was particlarly hard. Arrived back at manu bay at full tide sunday, turned around and fished for two more hours as there is only so much salt the old falcon can take and i dont think the 16 footer will quite fit in the boote.

how many Snapper did you pick up mash? Maybe we dont know the right spots to go to. I spent saturday out there, well half a saturday until the mate got sick and wanted to come in. We only picked up one snapper at 35m, we tried a variety of different spots from 35-45m after that and didnt even get a bite. there were a few boats in close at Jacksons when we first went out but they wernt there by the afternoon, so it was probably a hard day for them as well.

four snapper. Tried ledgers, soft baits, various bottom luers etc. Chased the kahawai schools and fished around and under them. Had plenty of fun trying to work it out, a sounder may help, but managed a good feed. Hapy to eat KY. There were plenty of boats out but everyone was moving so maybe hard for everyone . Had a couple of kids with me who got sick but they were well prepped on sucking it up unless it's life threatening!

Pushed a bit wide out to 58m with nothing touched. Came home via jacksonswith a workup and half dozen fat kahawai on board. Going to spend a bit of time closer in next time, the wide trips havnt been allthat productive. Great to be out, with a couple of other trailer's at the ramp

Got out on Sunday for the first time in a long time out of Kawhia.
Went to 58 and had a slow but steady run of snaps. Adverage 5-6 pounds with plenty of china man sharks and the odd kahawai and gurnard.
Bar crossing was a bit hairy. If anyone got a photo of the flying boat on Venturer id love to see it as my eyes were closed.

spent from six till one on the water today. Blowing 15 most of the time, small swell with ****ty short chop. Plenty of boats about. Started in the pack in 50 then 52 then 55. Plenty of boats stopping for an hour then moving on. Was keen to head further out but forcast 20 knots kept us on the cautious side. Heaps of workups and some solid kahawai. Snapper on the bite in the afternoon in the deeper water with one going 58 cm. Seemed like a long hard day on the water!

Out of Manu Bay this morning by 7.30, abit crappy on the way out to the 50m line, hard fishing, moved to the 55m line and again very slow, only had 4 snapper by low tide about 9.45am, but then at 10.30 it came on big time, binned up with limit and on way home by 11.30am. Great day overall, forecast looking good for later in the week too.

We were out from Rags early Sunday, near due west of the leads, sloppy seas and slow trip but at the 55m by 8, finished fishing about an hour later with a bin full of fish. Back home in time to catch the last of the ABs game. Great morning. I havent had fishing that fast in ages, 2 at a time, about 2 seconds on the bottom before bites. Awesome. Only thing that slowed us down was a few (cudas?) stealing hooks.
