What do you make of these reels.....

Just a gimmick mate.....only useful thing is the line level but id rather have my reel on top out the way or a stella underneath it........Cant see that taking off.

Seen these reels before...poses the question.... Why... Spin reels do the job just fine and have advantages over a underhead reel design... Level wind could be asking for trouble on a high output drag down the track...could be wrong... Notice in the video when the angler gets railed that the reel gets banged around a bit .... so much weight swinging around under the rod

pro for spin........the jig goes down faster (always down before me).....   con for spin...easier to beat the reel up.
As MIB says, why bother?.................Personally, i like overhead.
Filmed in Perth on samsons by the look of it......surprised the sharks didnt get em.

Great Promo vid as usual from JM... these reels are designed for Jigging that's clear... the advantage it would have over a spin is the narrow angle from spool to first guide which means less line angle when the rod is loaded.... Had suggestions from a mate who's a spin reel fan to improve this design... he would turn the spool 90 degrees remove the side plate and put a manual bail arm on it and it should be a winner....  told him it would be a conventional spin reel then.... " exactly"...

good video but reel looks awkward to me, I noticed that there was not much footage of them actually jigging before hook up either which makes me wonder? sticking with the stella, but cool to see them trying something different.

Was that advertising reels or coolness?

I think it's going to detract from one of the biggest benefits of an OH reel. it will remove the ability to detect the slightest of little knocks. I think DAM tried these over a decade ago to no avail ( I know not the same league of reel but concept the same.

Will they succeed? probably because Jigging is a very trendy market. It has the guy with the name behind them and he knows it (just look at his walk :P )

It turns out we've been doin it wrong all this time! Or have we?? Seems a bit unnecessary when you consider some of the biggest jigged kingy have come out of our waters using recognisable gear. However good on em for giving us options. I guess!?
Tight lines

As Alan said. Not much footage of jigging.. without being able to hold such a bulky reel i can imagine the side to side wobble would be a pain. As mib says level winds tend to fail as jigging is very tough on the smaller components which are generally not metal.. I guess thats to be seen. The monster game reels never took off. Just another trendy concept trying to break into new markets imo.

I would say they will be metal parts in these. although the concept is a little strange to us I am sure they will have put some effort into getting them right.

I take it they go on a standard spin rod. If not jm will have their own underhand rod market.. small as it may be.
