Yep. Heres a quick rundown of the rules.
More info at www.marsdencovefishingclub.com

Spearfisherman enter individually, but dive and weigh as a pair (team).
The spearfishing section will be operated under a points system (Scoring as per below).
Teams may spear and present fish over the two days and select the best fish of any day to submit for their entry. This allows for a team that can only spear for one day to remain competitive.
All competitors must freedive, SCUBA equipment may not be used.
Each team member may only carry one spear gun.
Cartridge type, compressed gas guns and power heads are not permitted.
Each team must tow one Red, Yellow or Orange coloured float or Plat. This equipment must be fitted with a divers flag of at least 15 x 20cm and be self-righting.
Points System:
The minimum weight for all eligible fish will be 500 grams.
Competitors may weigh in a maximum of 2 fish per target species not including Kingfish. Only 1 kingfish may be weighed in per team.
There will be one Weigh Master, one screening table and all fish checked for the minimum weight on electronic digital scales.
Each team will be responsible for sorting their catch prior to presenting it to the Weigh Master. Fish will be placed on the screening table, checked and sorted, then ‘Presented’ to the Weigh Master. Once ‘Presented’ they may not be interfered with again by the competitors, until weighing and scoring is completed.
Each team shall ‘Present’ one kingfish and two each of the remaining eligible species per day.
100 penalty points for any of the following breaches:
fish that are less than 80% of the minimum weight
an ineligible specie
fish that do not meet the MOF regulations, or more than the allowable number of any species is presented.
Any fish to receive a penalty will incur the loss of a maximum of 100 points.
Scoring:
100 points per eligible fish and then a further 10 points per kilogram
Maximum weight to be scored for each fish will be 8 kilograms.
Team placing’s will be determined by greatest total of points scored to the lowest.
In the event of a tie, the team that weighed in first will be declared the winner.

Yep! Tickets now available online!

Go to www.marsdencovefishingclub.co.nz

This is a good comp to get started on, as it is not a swim off, you can dive anywhere, and you have alot of time to get all the species.
