If that pictured above is anything to go by, you won't be letting the side down. Can you get a deeper green back with black fleck to mirror a kahawai... you know, matching the hatch so to speak? MAybe something larger as well, say 30cm? How about a hinged piper imitation?

Most definitely CA, the next to be painted will be in a Kahawai paint scheme... And yes the bait could be made as large as you could cast and successfully fish, at 300mm the weight would come up to balance the lure out, unsure as to what weight that would be without making the lure...

Jointed baits are really classic and I think a piper imitation would be great to build...It will be a busy weekend LOL

If you have any prototype almost-made-its' you want killed by GTs, I am heading back to the Solomons again in May..... just an idle thought ahem ahem..... :-)
With the bigger stickbait.... how about a buzzer paddle in the tail perhaps?

Awesome. Looking super nice there RAL, sex on a stick. What fish wouldn't want to chomp that. How do you get those sexy scale patterns happening? How did you end up weighting it?

Itd be good if you could make a 300mm bait at 130-150gm your lures look really good and the detail is nice. I guess its a hard road to make money from this unless you charge like a wounded carpenter! Its a wicked feeling making a lure like this and then seeing it get smashed, theres your satisfaction right there..Clap

Couldn't help myself...I hand carved the head and turned the two body pieces...

350mm long and 115g with out hooks / splits

I need to swim it and see how she goes.... I have a few kahawai styles in the mix but time is tight but will get there some day LOL

Took this lure for a swim today....

Swam well enough for the kingy's to bite and trolls at 5-6 knots also Big smile Needs to cast better although it was O.K.

Lost the lure to a small kingy after being to lazy to 1. Use trace armour/thimble/hollow on my knot ( ag Chain knot ) 2. Check the knot after lots of C&R of 4-10kg fish, and some trolling tests.

The knot wore through at the eye ( 60lb supple ) on the light setup...

Nev if you read this, can you I.D a blank for me... I have what I am sure is a kilwell I need to I.D.
Cheers

Thats what I am thinking too maybe if I put a silver hologram finish on the sides along with a little black detail along the back bone to try and mimic a piper it could well be deadly....It is so hard to replicate nature e.g. fish patterns etc.

Something to work on tho. WinkLOL

Thanks CA, the jointed one has a real US look to it... You don't see much of this style in the saltwater scene more so in the fresh water bass or even the striper plug style ( sand eel imitations )...

I am picking it will cast well as weight is in the rear two body sections, will be quite a handful with three trebles and a angry fish tho LOL

As for the bottom lure, it was nice to have a lure the swam off the rod tip and also trolled if need be...as for the finish I am getting there still a long way off but I got a long time! LOL Would be nice to get to or pass the "japanese" finish.

Few more baits and poppers from my latest work -

Pilchard and Kahawai- 200mm/100g

New shape popper - 200mm 85-90g

Mahimahi-

Nev has the only prototype I have made so far which was made for a proto rod...This has one minor change, added a recessed grommet to protect the lure at the swivel.

A few small poppers made for F.Net members- 130mm 95g

Electric blue...Great colour that shifts with light and angle.

Koheru-

Kahawai-

Still need more testing before I can nail down a solid stick bait design...But things are ticking along.

The kahawai stickbait is currently get a finish coat of epoxy and the mahimahi popper has been coated and really "pops"...

Welcome aboard Red Big smile

Now we can talk about getting you some of those little poppers to try out on your resident GT's...When are you going to Jewel?

No there is no rod building section/forum on F.net...but there is however some great rod builders, trolling through posts will bring up some of their work, probably more Soft plastic rod builders than you are used to but nice work all the same...

Mods, any chance of a rod building section? Guys and gals could display their work and even include simple tips like replacing tips, guides etc...
