I have trying to do some research on a few topics of late and cant seem to search anything on this forum any more- since the forum upgrade has a lot of info being deleted, do we still have access to posts from 2-4 years ago or not, what about pics and info regarding topics have they all gone?

The search should be fully functional and no topics were deleted on the move to the new site design. Give me a couple of things you're looking for and I'll see if I can find them for you

right I have been trying to search Legasea- the forum will only give info for 2015, I'm trying to go back to the start (trying to find something), also being trying to search boom rock- same thing will only search 2015, pics and info have all gone,

I just used the link suggested by gmacx and it resulted in numerous references to Legasea.  I clicked on the first option (for Page 4) and then used the page search box to go to page 1 which was dated back in 2012.
Not sure what you have been trying scuzzy, but it worked O.K. for me.  Actually a very useful option...

if I click the search function - and type legasea and go any date it only comes up with 2015 , found this with a few searches  I have done, using firefox which should not be an issue

I just did the search based on what your pic showed but set the search to display the result as TOPIC only and I got this result:

This starts the discussion at page 1 dated in 2012
It looks like you were trying to display 'all posts' hence you got over 100 hits.
