OK, so what's to like?

1. A straight pull of line from the reel to the rod cf spin reels.

2. You lose the twisting of the rod that inevitably happens with overheads once the strain goes on (so no need for acid wraps...).

3. Easier on spool bearings, possibly easier to manufacture using cheaper materials.

What's not to like?

1. Different (aaaarrrggghhh, change...)

2. A bit awkward to thumb the line on the drop; but, come on, who does this regularly jigging?

3. Levelwind may add some potential for wear on the line. My experience with much lighter braid on much smaller levelwind reels would indicate that this is more to do with the particular braid you use than with levelwinds.

Yeah, I'd happily give one a go.

Will be interested to see if these reels are a passing fad, a gimmick, or here to stay. Are any of the other manufacturers going down this way?

Remember a few years back? Sam Mossman on tv using a spin reel upside down and winding backwards? I don't think that caught on hereLOL

I'm with PJ. Also no line twist as spinning reels are prone to, no problems with slamming bail arm over when big fish nails you on the drop.

If they come in left hand wind I'll also have a go.

But what does this do that an overhead won't? This will slam into the rail, harder to control the jig on the drop, have a level wind which will probably fail, harder to balance the reel, will be quite expensive, Will be heavier,   harder to adjust the drag and you will look silly trying to jig with it. Sounds like a great reel apart from all that stuff

Well by the look of the fishing report it catches fish. At the end of the day that's all a reel has to do, it can't be any worse than an Alvey to me.

i find quite silly that jigging master have released an "underhead reel" but they have no spinning reels in the jm lineup.. yet they even have aftermarket spools......  but they decided to do an underhead? a spinning reel and an underhead do the exact same thing and i could almost guarentee that if jm brings out a spinning reel it would out sell an underhead 3:1

Anyone got any info on the new JM Ocean Devil range:

http://www.jignpop.com/jigging-master-ocean-devil-pe5-reel/

Single drag, but similar spec's to the dual drag model and built to a price point

Maxel doesnt do spin reels so im guessing thats why there is no spin reel jm option. Only jm spools made by maxel. Surprise surprise maxel does the same ones. Funny really..

Looks like the typical approach of changing a product for the sake of change in order to sell more. Pass, I already have a few Stellas, and several Accurates.
