I would say the troll speed is more of an issue...we were trolling river to sea rover 230(floaters) in tauranga and i had two strikes at the lure but didnt catch....dont know about trolling the sinking ones...id be inclined to troll the floaters and find the speed that worked them nice.

Once the idiots turn up..Im outta here...No time for Drama Queens.

you can probably troll either lure but the speed should not be so fast to cause the lure to broach and lose action on the surface.  Some experimentation is needed.

thanks guys! the trolling was only a secondary thought but think I'll go the 180 floating intially. cheers.

Trolling is nowhere near as much fun as casting for them and not nearly as rewarding.
But saying that there are days where trolling is required to help locate the fish, if oyu are using the lures for simply locating the fish then it is simple choose a floating one and do not take your eyes off the lure. You will be amazed how many fish actually come up on the lures and have a swipe or you see a swirl behind the lure, wiht a sinking lure you will not see any of this.
For me in this situation it is more about finding the fish to go back and cast to than actually catching but hey thats just me.

Found a bunch of these lures in the discount bin at the local store, so brought one to try.  Do they work okay with single hooks? , and what size?  

Might end up getting a few more.

8 or 9mm split rings and shogun or decoy inline 7/0 eg...those are 8/0 on there and found them a bit big...prefer to fish them with 7/0 inline than  3/0 owner trebles....better action.

Grabbed a couple more today, one green, one pink. 

If anyone driving through Blenheim, they can be gotten for half price from the h&F bargain bin. Maybe half a dozen left. Mainly green and pink.
