Hey guys,

most of my popper/stickbait chucking is done from the bricks, using the same gear I strayline with. As funds become available I'll get more appropriate gear but at this stage it's what I'm using

Given that I'm running 10kg and 15kg on my spools, what would be the best knot to attach the leader for casting poppers/sticks? Can tie an FG knot fairly well (using the rod technique that was posted in another thread ) or is the FG better suited to braid connections?

Cheers

B

Hey B, the FG (or even PR ) are for braid. Those knots make the braid loops bite into the leader sufarce to get the lock.

I guess You can use back to back uni for your mono to leader. Tie the know really tight and slim so it will go thru the guides easily.

I tested it last night [FG 10kg onto 130lb] and it seemed to bite quite well, will give it test with the towbar and see where it breaks

F### bro.. you dont need 130Lb, too heavy for casting. I reckon 80 - 100lb will be ok. I got a couple of traces of different weights if you want we can practice on the beach to see if uni works.

Let me know how it goes, first time I know FG for mono. But hey, you can always put some glue on it.

Have been using the Roddy Hays but don't like it when using 130lb trace. The knot just thumps through the guides

I would use either that knot of BA's in the link above (think he calls it a Fatboys) or a lethal knot as shown below. Both are very easy. And yeah 130lb is crazy. 100lb monos all good by me.

Hey B, think you will be alright with 80lb flouro for casting. Im using a 100lb trace but the diameter is close to the 80lb BlckMgic flouro. And if you make ur trace not too long (2m?) so as not go thru all the giudes (like maybe first 3 guides form top)you will be fine.. but if you hook up a  big boy on rough country... might be a different storyOuch. Some more ecouragement: most of my stickbait hook ups on the rocks are just from 5 - 10m from the ledge. So casting jsut 30m out will be fine if the kings are there.

Yep - in fact I've had more issues running out of water to work the lure than lack of distance casting from the rocks with the fish chasing them hard over that last 5-10 m. I nearly bashed one on the head last weekend in frustration at it not taking the bait and it still didn't bite.LOL
