Does not really bother me.  I doubt it would have cost the tax power anything in real terms,  the hours flown (and fuel) would have been allocated and used anyway. Just something a little different then routine flying exercises.

what laws did it break?
what laws did Hellens drive break?
Keys hasnt denied it or said he was working at the time

Agree with Militaris.. Pilot would have loved the change in routine I would imagine. Thought it was good to see the airforce out and about actually.

Called setting an example... do you enjoy your boss laying down the law then not giving a **** breaking every one of them him/her self? same thing..

I aint moaning just making a point here which seems to ok for some and not others...

Yeah nah. If you fly in them often enough you get to hear lots of bells and whistles that mean it's all turning bad. As they age, you get more whistles and bells on every flight until one pilot is only turning off lights and pushing circuit breakers back in.
 
If your in the back and the crewcheif starts pushing breakers in and turning off lights then you might wanna get out, Not when it lands, NOW.

Good on him I say;

didn't cost us a cent extra,
got him to the event on time thereby helping out the organisers of the event (?)
reduced conjestion on the motor ways making it better for the Jaffas.
Gave some airforce dudes a bit of a thrill from the normal flights they would otherwise be carrying out
gave people a bit of a spectacle to see.
Gave me something to talk about and argue with other people about at the "water cooler".

I've been in enough choppers on SAR exercises and ops to know how close some are to dying. Used to be able to get 9 SAR team members in a huey, now you can only get 5 as they are derated to preserve the airframe.
 
Yeah they don't crash all the time, Except last ANZAC day........
 
But there are lots that come close to it that you don't hear about.
