| Does not really bother me. I doubt it would have cost the tax power anything in real terms, the hours flown (and fuel) would have been allocated and used anyway. Just something a little different then routine flying exercises. |

Yeah nah. If you fly in them often enough you get to hear lots of bells and whistles that mean it's all turning bad. As they age, you get more whistles and bells on every flight until one pilot is only turning off lights and pushing circuit breakers back in.
If your in the back and the crewcheif starts pushing breakers in and turning off lights then you might wanna get out, Not when it lands, NOW.

Good on him I say; didn't cost us a cent extra, got him to the event on time thereby helping out the organisers of the event (?) reduced conjestion on the motor ways making it better for the Jaffas. Gave some airforce dudes a bit of a thrill from the normal flights they would otherwise be carrying out gave people a bit of a spectacle to see. Gave me something to talk about and argue with other people about at the "water cooler". |

And just back to Rocko's original point - how convenient is it to forget that Key donates his salary to charity, apparently picks up heaps of his expenses... etc
This was a beat-up from an desperate opposition in tatters and mediocre media with nothing much to report - politics aside, I can't for the life of me see why anyone could get upset over the Prime Minister making sure he's as available for as many important events and functions as possible. Dammed if you do and dammed if you don't but good on him for what is clearly a full on commitment - bet he doesn't get much time for fishing! ------------- Online... |

You all miss the point entirely. When this government is cutting costs in every direction it is not appropiate to do sh*t like this, it is hypocritical expecting everyone else to cut costs except them!
As for key donating his salery, he earns more than that in a month from his other interests and once he's finished as PM will never have to work again.
Still just what i'ld expect from nat supporters with your couple of rental properties and family trusts!

grunta there is no reason to take a helicopter. there was no great rush he could have driven like most people do. This is not America or Australia where the distance is an issue. Key is just a face who wants all the perks and fun he can get!! This is not the actions of a resposible government but then again we are in NZ!1
When you go to a government department for something and its not there as its a "thing thats nice to have" but not what this government wants to pay for let me know! especially when its your mother wanting a wheelchair or the like!
you also mention that is great that he attends important events etc...what like the hamilton V8s and a christian music festivals? your on crack right?

Ah Terry, you are so far of the mark its amusing.
There is every reason to take a helicopter. He is the Prime Minister, with the baubles that office holds he go where he likes how likes. Thats what the public of NZ offered him when we voted him in. Do you seriously think that a family man who has done incredibly well as a business man all over the world is going to these events 7 days and nights a week for " perks and fun".
How can you belittle him for being successful? If everyone in this country had the drive and ambition to succeed like he does and has then maybe we could afford more of the 'nice to haves'?
With the things going on around NZ at the time he was exactly what we needed as a leader - public facing, honest and open - everything that the opposition aren't, and certainly weren't when they were in power.
Sorry you have had a bad experience somewhere along the way Terry but Govt depts need to draw a line somewhere otherwise we will continue to have the bloated public service we are now cutting down after so many years of self service.

jimmy i didnt belittle him his success! he has definately come from very poor beginnings and worked for what he has!!
it does not change the fact he is a very very wealthy man and he leaves polotics will earn much more on speaking tours and the like.
he is going to these events for self promotion plain and simple so he's not fooling anyone!! and him going where he likes when he likes how he likes is NOT what the public offered him when national was elected.
As for bloated public services..my god do you have any idea at all what these services provide? all the services being cut have always operated within their budgets and provided good service. If key is re elected and he then has the magic word of the moment..."mandate"there will be wholsale changes and privatisations as they have already hinted at!!
Just because the last government was slack is no reason to excuse this governments actions.

interesting comments today by Philly Goffs mates Knocking National for the BMW deal again and slagging the BMW people under palimentry privilages. Then having Key answer them on radio. Difference was that Goffs mates cant be sued but Key can.... wonder whos telling the truth. Does the government need to make cutbacks in services etc? Probably.... how much damage has been done in this chch eq? That has to be paid for from somewhere. Did Helen have protection when she went on holidays? I bet she did. It is like Labour saying she never had any in parliament.... but then there came that whole string of pics of Uncle Helen in parliament with her minders in the background. Did dip. protection go over budget. Yep. Is that good? Nope. Did they ever go over budget under Labour... yep, in fact more so. Oh how soon Labour hopes we forget! Is the economy in the loo.... quite likely. Why? Too small a population and too much infrastructure and welfare needs to be shared around. Will increasing the basic wage help? Nope. It just means more small businesses will either go under or stop hiring. We look with jealousy at the prosperity in Aussie, and rightly so. However, their wealth comes from mining the huge natural resources they have freely to hand in that vast continent. That is what is propping up their whole economy. If they were no longer allowed to mine ores, then I wonder how long they would last before the effluvula impacted the oscillatory ventilation aid. We in this wee land are not allowed to even know what may be here, oh dear no precious! |

Ok how about this then No personal tax at all to company owners that employ over say 100 people. What dose this do? it encourages people to set up business here in NZ rather that over seas in other words 100 people of the dole and paying tax as well as earning money for the NZ economy now before you jump up and down, think about the jobs that were lost in the Hawkes Bay with Watties and all the call centers over seas. This has just come to me as a thought after half a bottle of red so its certianly not too well thought out but possibly worth thinking about? |

yeah so where to from here, what this country needs is a straight shooter in the house, no not a racist like Hone and Winston tried but got shot down as he went for the jugular on bad advice from his advisors, but yes a straight shooter not afraid of saying how it is, Goff is an idiot J.K has let me down as no doubt alot of you out there, but who would get my vote now mmmmm I dunno, I dont like the way that JK is advised to sell off assets etc to make the books look good, then today we hear from the finance minister that you and I will need to pay more for our retirement, when asked about the subsidy for those in the house "no we wont be touching ours that would be unfair on parlimantarians [sp]. what do they earn again, hell a back bencher gets alot more than me. so who do we vote for, mmmmm, I supose we cant have our cake and eat it too, no wonder people are heading to aussie in droves. I've never seriously thought of moving to Aussi and could never understand why immediate members of my family have done it. Currently I'm beginning to feel like the the emotional side is starting to loose the battle with the logical side. I'm certainly stealing myself for the comparison of their budget with ours. I strongly suspect that if it were possible, the govt...ANY govt, would just love to be able to spend more on kiwi saver and SOEs and so on.... but hell, times are tough, and the country really is pretty much like any family, and if the money isn't coming in, cuts or changes have to be made. Everyone complains about hard times etc, but then acts amazed that the govt doesn't have the money to spend on projects. Add in billions of damage done by the EQ down south that is going to burn up money needed elsewhere, and what do you really expect? |

i agree with most of you, but why are we up **** creek to start with? i don't think it's the total fault of those with the empty purse strings currently, weren't they shown the books and then probably thought 'we're ****ed'
show what use it was having a school teacher for a finance minster didn't it.
anyhow, back to the original post about the leader of the country using a helicopter to get around, why the hell not? he's the leader of this unfortunate nation that most of us are hap;py to call home. while using the helicopter, his driver (pilot) wasn't endangering anyone by drivingat idiot speeds for no good reason than the boss was late. how bad would it have been for his predesessor to have been late for the rugby? Not, no one would've given a toss, I don't go to the rugby to see the PM or anyone except those playing.
time to build yourselves some bridges people andget over it, if you aren't going to stand for parliament, what's the point? Go fishing.
