No rules as far as I'm aware of, used to own one. Takes a while to get the hang of it...

They're heaps of fun, Kadin, just start out practicing on the lawn or beach till you get the knack. If you practice in the water you'll end up saturated.

yeah i'd agree that they should make an exception for throw nets,they are much more targeted than drag/set nets so juveniles are avoided from the start, I guess the rules aren't going to change without pressure for them to do it and i guess so few people use cast nets over here that there's not been enough people asking for a rule change...

although i've not used one i kind like the idea of them over other bait nets, you've gotta spot your targets and actually have the skill to get the net to spread out nicely over them rather than flop into a heap beside them, much more sporting haha!
