We are heading up to Kuatonua out of whitianga for a week and plan to do some game fishing along with some time targeting kingis and hapuka. Would really appreciate any info or places to try. We will have 3 boats all around 7 metre and plan to fish anyway from Cuvier to the aldermans. Its a newish area to us as we mostly fish raglan/ waihau /tauranga

That would definately add a bit of excitement to the day- Think I'll get one of my mates to get those off the hook!

Look for pinnacles. Any where really, keep an eye on your sounder have seen them schooling 50m of th ebottom at times aswel.

Out of K'tuna.... go due east of Great Merc, look on the 100m line, you will see a very wobbly patch of bottom... that is really foul ground down there but there are some nice fish that lurk among the reefs. Otehrwise, you could try the pins around Richards Rock, if the weather is from the west/SW, it is slightly sheltered there.
There is a marked pin about half way between grt merc and Cuvier that is not a bad rock for kings as well.
Several pins between the 100m line and the east side of cuvier as well are worth investigating.
