Hey Guys,

I was just wondering if any of you get tiny bubbles streaming from the side of your mask sometimes?.....which in turn creates a high pitch squeaking kind sound. My mask fits well however this happens to me quite a bit when I’m out diving.

hmm that sounds odd.

If I'm diving with a cold I sometimes get a high pitch squeaking sound coming from inside my ear.

Mite be this?

Does it only happen on ascent?

You could try putting Vaseline on the edges of your mask to try and make a better seal.

It could be you breathing very slightly out of your nose.  I sometimes catch myself doing this if I'm snotty or my nose is irritated.

Try heaps of different things like relaxing your face, or not biting your mouth piece too hard etc...

Could be anything, but bubbles mainly point to it not fitting properly.

I followed around one of the members of this forum on a snoop a while back, filming him. After watching himself on tape, he was most put out to see the constant trail of bubbles from his mask when he thought he was being super stealthy. Maybe some people just slowly exhale out their noses?

Had a similar problem but mine was caused by a huge fart,it made shoot to the surface like a lift bag and when i took my next breath,i nearly got nitrogen narcosis,so no more bake beans the night before a dive.Clown

Pissing in your suit? yeah not much choice when you are in water diving for long time. I reakon the guy that invents a small "Fly" or hole in the crotch with a velcro cover or something so it is easy to flop oit out will make a pile of money, could even patent the idea and live off the royalty of money pouring in.

But until that day comes we'll all have to keep warming up our suits!

Um, sorry but it's been done already - I thought all decent suits these days came with a scupper as standard?   Mine certainly do. Pay a vist to Seaquel (or send your suit to them to get oone put in) or go look at Wild Blue's suits.

piss cools you down; your body feels the heat and sends blood back to your skin and that will chill you over time.

You smell bad after your dive, in the car on the way home. You still smell bad as you dig out the car of some muppet who has got stuck in the soft sand in the dark. More smelling like wee for a bit and then you get a shower.

Can't be good for ya (health wise) pissing in the wetsuit

My next suit I will invest in a scupper no doubt.

Yea, I remember that day and it was quite a shock. I am constantly aware of bubbles  since watching it on film. Very helpful. It could be any of the above mentioned theories and it will hopefully be the mask as I am getting a new one. Still, cannot have been that bad as we got a couple of good fish.  Probably more, if the idiot with the camera did not keep bumping me just as I was taking the money shot!Sleepy

The air has to be coming from your nose if it's happening on the bottom or on descent.  For air to be escaping you must be over pressurizing your mask.  What happens if you don't equalize your mask? [your eyes pop out of your head and your brain gets sucked into your mask] It maybe that you're unconsciously over-pressuring your mask a bit to keep water out?  Try tightening your strap maybe or try allowing your mask to suck on a bit more?

Pomblasta, a scupper isn't like a fly where you have to whip your old fella out to pee.  It's a neoprene one-way valve like those sometimes found in the transom of boats.  Your phallus remains happily nestled in rubber but the urine is evacuated from the suit.  There's a fine scupper pic in TSW's most recent dive report if you look carefully.

I remember YEARS ago I borrowed my brothers wetsuit (with a fly - not a scupper) and went to Goat Island to take some visitors for a SCUBA dive (shock, horror).

It was shallow, we were in the water for a looonnnggg time and I got the urge, swam behind a rock and unzipped the fly - only to lose any urge to pee that I had as the COLD water rushed in!

(And, being cold, you wouldn't want to feature in a tourists photo - wouldn't do the ego any good).

You think that's bad - I used to have a fly zipper in a suit. One day I sat on the side of teh boat and unzipped for the obvious reason - all good, then when zipping back up caught the end in the zipper - you know how big and chunky those setsuit zips are.  Ouch.  It drew blood and I had to reverse back out of the situation.
