I'm looking at getting a new rod for this reel and just wanting advice on what's good and what's in not so good. I think I will need to get two rods as I need one for fishing off a boat which will be 6-7ft 10-15kg range and the other rod needs to be about 9ft also 10-15kg for throwing poppers and maybe a bit of live baiting from shore just so I can flick it out a bit easier with the extra length.

Budget? I'm pretty sure you can find something suitable for both applications...

A lot of anglers like Smith rods for the lighter stuff, personally I'd look into the Van Diemen range offered by Synit.

Exactly what I was going to say sam. Vandemon x35 from synit mate. We have been flicking the x46 and if thats anything to go by the new x35 will be a match in heaven for your 5k

Great rod, love mine but unless Graeme has one already built there could be a wait.

I'm using a jigstar 120 with my 4000 and love it… awesome fun on bluenose/puka/albies/snaps. Although it looks like a kids wharf set its rapidly becoming my little go to combo on the boat

im not home at the mo but from memory its about 5'4" so it's quite short…but super parabolic and fun on chunky fish. It really does look like a kiddies wharf set and I've mates tease me about it until they see it load up with decent fish!

Yeah, thought it was a short rod. Not sure if I should get a mass produced rod or not, but, at the same this stage I am not wanting to spend almost as much as the reel cost on a rod. I've have not used any Shimano rods before.. Looking at the Shimano Jungle Stix & Terez rods atm. Any Daiwa 10-15kg rods you guys know of?

Thanks, will have look now.
I know there were some 6ft6 Daiwa Monster Mesh 10-15kg or PE 1-2 rods (older model) If only they had made a lighter rating in the new MMX.

$500 would be the max I would spend. Looking for cheaper options right now.

I have a 7ft Terez 50lb, run a thunnus on it for livebaiting and straylining. Nice heavy duty rod, often slow jig with it when we want more jig colors in the rotation.
