Bro go for a recon and a drive and have a look first and suss the area, the answer is yes but you need to know where to go, not just next to the car eitherWink

Whangarei is an awesome place to live!... Yeah looks wicked out there. Was planning on getting out there this weekend to have a sniff around the rocks and see whats what. Hey has anyone heard anything about people catching kings at urquharts wharf? I know you catch them there but is anyone catching anything of good size?

I fish out that way quite regularly. A kayak/ IRB is a good option to have around there, especially if you want to get into those exposed spots with current and drop off for kings. No swell is pretty much mandatory for landing on those spots. If you want further details you can pm me, can suss you out on a yak too. Or there is some alright snapper walk in spots around the peninsula. Permission is needed to go onto the farmers land. That's difficult cause he lives in Kauri not Taiharuru.

Glad I'm not the only one to have had difficulties landing the yak in a 1m swell out there! My first trip out consisted of about 3 consecutive rolls off the yak into the surf, much to the amusement of my mate who made it in first time.

Had one of the best days ever snapper fishing off there, middle of day, big mackerel baits and every single one smashed me on 15 kg!

Yeah bro, there is some monster snappers in close at the mo'. 2 mates got 7 fish over 15lb yesterday with some big mid 20lbs. They lost two on the ledge and they were calling them the biggest snappers they had ever seen, and they didn't knew snappers got that big, and that's something coming from them. That was a bit further north thou, under a cloud on google earth. Had to help them fillet last night as they were to hammered as they began celebrating after the first over 20lb, then proceeded to get smashed all day, by fish that is. I want to be out there now!

Just had a look Jade, and looks like google have updated their images. The spot is no longer shrouded in mystery shall we say. Pretty cool footage when you zoom right in too as you can see the full topography of the terrain. If there wasn't surf I'd be up there this weekend.

Must be talking about two different spots. Not on the Tutukaka coast, alot further north.

Like to strike - some good fishing around Kauri Mountain, but again you really want a yak or boat to get to the sweet spots.

If I'm not taking photos I'm fishing. If I'm not fishing I'm taking photos, either way I'm having fun.

Good time for some cliff top fishing, did this in a 5 m swell at matapouri once, hauling kahawai and snappers 30m up from the raging sea!
