Bit of a change from the poppers,...It is 200mm and will be around 100g when finished, just on the roto now getting a final coat of epoxy...I think I am up to 6-7 coats now...Has been good to get detailed with the finish and away from popper paint jobs.

I have left the cheeks/gill plates in a aluminium finish, I am abit unsure of the look but next one I will paint to compare looks...What do you think??

Pic whilst painting-

Alu cheeks/gills applied and ready for final coat-

Close up of aluminium finish sides-

Looking foward to swimming it and sending off for field testing...

Thanks fella's, the gill area is hand carved so the bait a 3D quality to it... What do you reckon about leaving the gills aluminium?? I am liking the paint on alloy look.. really pops.

Next will be in a Kahawai livery...

Mint! Superb craftsmanship there RAL, must of been a fair bit of work gone into that puppy.

If it swims as good as it looks the kings won't have a chance.

How do you find making stickbaits vs poppers? Take longer to make?

I'm getting close to finishing 4 of my own, just waiting on some supplies.

Thanks again guys for the kind words...

Marx, I think the more you make the less mistakes you make, so it gets easier but in saying that it still is abit of work...

The key like you said is if it swims well, alot of time and R&D is put in here so no matter how fancy it looks if it won't swim it is pretty useless... Time will tell.

As for poppers they are a bit quicker because they are concentric shapes easily turned on a lathe...stickbaits definitely are alot more time consuming even more so for a one man band, that explains the price difference on the market for the smaller makers.

Let us know when you finish yours and I am also running low on supplies that why the poppers are for sale, need to place another expensive order in the US, damn freight is a killer!

Can be done Smile, I have often wondered if it makes any difference for the fish...I know they see the action and profile of a lure but the detail???
It has a little red under the chin for the angler when the lure is in the water.

Yep at the moment with my production rate, time charged out at minimum wage and NO profit my lures would cost more than gammas LOL

Yeh will be keeping my paint schemes pretty simple for now until I've got some designs I like and the skills to replicate them. I'm finding replication pretty difficult at the mo, got the feeling its just a matter of doing heaps.

Few casts this morning...and it swims! Action is a bit tighter than a gamma but just as erractic...Looks good so far, just needs some feild testing. Watch this space.

Some makers use duplicators for stick baits, I have thought of making one but need to make time for it...It would definitely speed up the making process...Hell some are just made from polystyrene.

Come up with a way to layout and template the lure, so next one is layed out the same and the templates can be used for shaping, scribble down your measurements also. When I come up with a bullet proof way I will let you know...

Sam, that is looking amazing in my opinion.  I saw it on the 360 site too and there are some outstanding lure makers on that site, you are without a doubt as talented as any of the finest lure makers around!
