Hi all, I've got this fixed light on the top of my rocket launcher that keeps breaking when I put my boat cover on, its also put a hole in the cover. I'm pretty keen to chop the vertical pole in half where the red line is and I'll 3d print a fold down bracket to fold the light down before the cover goes on. My question is can I take to this metal with an angle grinder or will that screw up the chrome coating thats over the top of it? and maybe make it rust too?

Why not ring cut it with a hack saw or wheel cutters. Grinder sparks will make existing and has potential to leave rust stains

Ok cool good to know, cheers, should I spray the fresh cut with something to prevent rust, like a zinc or chrome spray?

It wouldn't hurt, especially if the fitting you were going to make covered it.

Why not mount it on a plastic holder between the 2 rod holders, little less height but shouldnt make to much difference, could feed wire through launcher internally

You can get folding ones it you cut the pipe down so when you fold it down it should be lower than the rod holders
