Yes, tried it once. It was OK, but no improvement on panko breadcrumbs. Used ready salted. Could get more exciting with different flavours I suppose.

Have used finely crushed corn flakes a couple of times, its ok. Chips are to put in marmite sandwiches.

This one looks worth a go as well, not batter, but hey, food for thought.

I found the thread, but the original video no longer works...

It's interesting to try, for sure. I recommend one of the more gourmet brands - e.g. Red Rock lime and cracked pepper chips (from Australia). i think a more meaty chip makes a difference to the quality of the crumb (so Muppet's comment above re Doritos makes sense).

Just leave some in the bottom of the packet and gently mash with a rolling pin or similar on a chopping board. You want crumbs about the size of panko.

I think some of the taste if you just ate the chip by itself gets lost in the cooking, but it gives a bit more flavour than ordinary panko. You can probably achieve exactly the same thing, and a bit easier, by adding off-the-shelf lemon pepper or other spices of your choice to panko crumbs in a little bowl before the cooking process.
