first topwater session for the season straight into the action all fish caught on carpenter rods and lures,anyone looking at getting into this type of fishing i highly recommend getting yourself some carpenter lures we have tried a lot of lures and while most will catch small kings always seems the carpenters get the bigger ones

Don't get me wrong Carpenters are great but i've out fished anglers who were using them next to me plenty of times, with lures worth half or a third of a gamma, bluefish etc

Will do thanks, chucked some nomad lures around waiheke channel marker buy this morning few half hits but no takers, nothing big though.

Total novice here, my only top water Kingi this year (from 2 visits to a buoy en route to spot X) was caught with a Shimano Ocea Pilchard pattern, rigged with VMC singles.
However, n=1: anecdotal, not evidence, as they say.
But it was a nice first for me.
