Don't get me wrong Carpenters are great but i've out fished anglers who were using them next to me plenty of times, with lures worth half or a third of a gamma, bluefish etc

Total novice here, my only top water Kingi this year (from 2 visits to a buoy en route to spot X) was caught with a Shimano Ocea Pilchard pattern, rigged with VMC singles.
However, n=1: anecdotal, not evidence, as they say.
But it was a nice first for me.
