Can anyone give me a bit of info regarding Jerry Brown braid please.I am looking at filling a JM 1600 spool with the 100lb solid braid for a GT chasing trip in July. The standard Stella spool is filled with 80lb Suffix but I was wanting to fill the JM spool with a PE8 equivelant braid for a bit more firepower. The more reviews I read the more confusing it gets on the difference between the solid & the hollow types.By all accounts it seems to be a reliable braid but it is always better to hear from someone who has actually used it.Any thoughts on what it is like for casting & if there are any NZ stockists apprecciated.Thanks.

In a nut shell I have JB on all my Stellas some is 80lb solid and some 100lb hollow. If you want xtra line then the HOLLOW 100lb is the way to go it is thinner than the 80lb solid something to do with the number of carriers it is produced  from I belive. Either way it is the best braid i have used in terms of not needing a glove to cast .I have fished this braid day after day with S/baits to 180grm and never come close to cutting fingers. I tie the 100 hollow the same as any other with no problems it has the advantage also of being able to be spliced  together if you should lose some meters. Contact Chris Wong B C S Enterprizes he is the man that imports JB braid sponser of this jigging site and a top man to sort you out.Thumbs Up

never used the solid but the JB 100lb hollow casts great and is dam near unbreakable. Understand it is the diameter of PE7. Highly recommended.

There seems to be a bit of anti JB from the popping boys in USA, seems to get lots of wind knots but brilliant for trolling /jigging

Is that the hollow or the solid, we've got JB hollow in 60-100lb on 5 spinners on the boat and in hundreds and hundreds of casts maybe had a wind knot once.

Likewise for me I have stella,s loaded with 80lb hollow including 2 JM spools and dont ever remember a wind knot using it.
I am getting a 1200m spool of the 100lb hollow to fill my new stella 18000 and also fil the JM 2500 spool
Have yet to find anything better to cast

Do you think it would be better to go the 80 or the 100lb on the JM1600 spool? My first choice was the 100lb & was hopeing to get somewhere around 250/270m on it.This will not be the only popping rod I will be taking as I will have a 18000 spooled with 130lb & will be fished on a Komodo Dragon so I am not trying to do a one rod does all trick!Your thoughts please.

I'd go with the 100. it's plenty strong enough, can fit more on and should be able to cast further with the lower diameter.

Like Josh says if I had known about the thinner 100lb when I spooled up thats what I would have used for sure

Hi Fenien
IMHO Jb hollow braid is the shizzle, I have used it for a few years now without any issues, very soft for casting with no wind knots, been using it for deep drop swords on 50W pimped reels, fantastic to splice and join together 100% no knots, top shot mono splice, everything you want from a super high quality spectra line, I have just ordered some 80lb and 100lb in white so will have stock soon, cheers steveSmile

Thanks everyone for some excellent advice. It is always good to hear from people who actually use a product rather than some armchair expert.Have gone the 100lb hollow & have got some on the way.Cheers Michael.

Hey Fenien

Just for what its worth...have done a lot of popping up here (Oman) for the last while (all we seem to do) - I miss the pillies..anyway for what its worth the vast majority of people use solid, not 100% why but just seems to be the case...

All types but generally the best you can buy...I personally use SMP PE10 as it covers both primary areas that we fish...In short most run 10-15kg drag at full spool and then palm the spool once you hook up. The first 60 seconds will generally set the scene...I have witnessed plenty of bust offs in that first 60 secs, lots or reasons but generally too much pressure causing the main to break (these main's are all 100lb +) so a lot of pressure.

I haven't seen a cut leader but the boys use all sorts, twisted, long, short etc.. I use the Varivas 170lb and 200lb (very supple and knots well). I prefer the knot outside the guides so run a short leader...from the tip to the stripper guide (FG or a version of it).

I use the Jigstar swivel/grommet with the small ring cut off...just because the grommet allows the thicker leader to knot up well...(Chris we need some up here!!)

Anyway...hope that's of some help

Using Jb hollow 60lb, and it's the goods for casting. ABS is about 90lbs I think. White is the go.
