Just wondering what peoples casting techniques are in terms of how you hold the rod.

Do you cast with the guides facing forward so that when you cast the weight of the lure causes your rod to bend backwards? the way its generally not supposed to bend.

Been using this technique and its by far the best way to get power, accuracy and have your knot go smoothly through the guides but I only picked it up seeing some photos of the carpenter boys doing it. Are most rods happy doing this or is it something you can only expect from high end rods?

Making some lures that will be close to maxing my pencil instrument, don't want to break it.

Youve lost me also....Is there any other way to cast a spin setup?

Having and practicing different casting styles is a handy skill to have/acquire...The overhead "thump" is what you need to have those lures of yours sailing towards the horizon, Don't let your bait/popper touch the water or rest in the water whilst starting your cast, the drag can be too much. Have seen and experienced this whilst surfcasting...Wade out, start the cast, the sinker dips in the water and the rod tip snaps   How are the lures coming along?

Dam its been a crazy week getting those lures sorted. My bigger size is 225mm and I've made two. Still have to paint them but at the moment they are 121g so should be very close to 130g once painted. Stoked with how they swim naked and they normally get better once they have a smooth finish! Hopefully have them painted and clear coated by tomorrow night, they need to cure by Monday!

Also done another two 180mm, I've finished one and its 81g.

I tend to hold the rod behind me over my shoulder, rock the lure forward toward me and then when it swings backwards, try to time my forward cast so I'm hitting it as the lure reaches the top of it's swing. Kinda like a mini pendulum but with out the side swing aspect of it. Can punch it far enough to give the popper plenty of skittle time in the water.

If you have a spare hour free one day...go down to your local park/grass area and have a practise....I did that with 4 different rods and my spheros with pe8 varivas .....I used a 5 oz torpedo sinker...which i know is not the same as a stick bait or a popper.....I used an 8 foot 3 rod and some 7 foot rods...You might get some funny looks but results might interest you.....A 8 foot 3 rod should cast further than a 7 foot 3 right? well they were about the same for me= 8 foot 3 rocky rod and 7 foot 3 15-24 jelly tip(much stiffer tip)....try a few things...you might find something and no harm is done on dry land.
