Hey Guys, fairly newbie Auckland fisher here. originally from christchurch (terrible fishing!) moved to the gold coast for a year and would never walk away with less than a bucketful of brim up there. Now im living in auckland city.

I have caught one fish in the year that i have lived here, (one baby KY at whangamata).

Was out at karekare on saturday during the day, didn't get anything but a few people were getting hits off the rocks.

Went out to Whangaparaoa last night, (heard it was the best for snapper) but i coudlnt find any decent spots, Just cast out off the beach there and din't even get a single bite (was using squid, trevelli and soft bait). Heading into orewa, and same deal really, couldnt find any rocks to go off so just cast off the sand but im sure it was too shallow for anything decent to come along.

Ended up gheading out to the Onehunga harbour (pretty packed when i got there about 9pm) stayed an hour but still no bites, one guy had pulled up a ky but that was it, there were a few eels around.

Can anyone suggest a good place around these areas to catch some keeprs? i would love to get some snapper. I usualyl get the frozen baits from the servos and thaw it out, and use a bread+sand burleigh.

Theres some rocks North end of Orewa beach at low tide.

You should also change the bread and sand mix not much of a mix up here unless your after sprats off a wharf. .plenty of rocks to fish north not sure why you never found any ,usally the northern bch's only fish at dawn or dusk ,if you have google earth have a look .Most of the places mouser has named work (maybe) or go further north to sullivan's bay Marhurangi .keep trying you will get there a little hard of the shore to get a legal fish at the moment

Hi everyone, like Ryan, I'm a newbie wanna-be fisherman too. Moved up to Hibiscus Coast area a couple of years ago, and have caught nothing so far.

The rocks at the end of Orewa are good for KY but as for snapper I would'nt expect any ones of great size, The Orewa bridge/Rivermouth can be excelent for KY mainly at night time when the lights are on seems to be the trick have caught on SP's and pillies.
