Also for people who have been, what months are best? is it better to hold off for the summer months, longer days and warmer weather to make the most of it, or is winter just as good?

Quite often you will see posts popping up for people looking for extras otherwise if your looking at going on Enchanter you could contact Michelle directly to see if there is any spare spots available.

Any time of the year is good but the game fishing was probably better earlier in the season this year. I was up there two weeks ago and we got slammed by that #$*@% storm that came through but still had one wicked day fishing on the kingys! Just go prepared with the right tackle i.e. heavy, and you will have a blast! Cheers

Spooling up Stella 16000 spool, with a 3 kings trip in mind in the near future, something good, varivas or boat braid etc.

pe8 - 250m
pe6 - 320m

These are the stated specs for the spool, is pe8 the way to go?

Hey Mark it's really important that the line is packed VERY tight on your spool. If your not sure can I suggest you tie a swivel to the end of your line & let at least two thirds out while on the move at a reasonably slow pace then retrieve your line. You will be amazed at how much drag is created by 200m of line in the water.
My first drop at the King in Feb resulted in a large fish & around 80m of new braid lost cause it wasn't packed tight enough.

Good info there Pete. How much strain can the 100 pound braid take in your opinion. Can you give it 100 % without it snapping? I was thinking of getting pe10 in another brand but it's twice the price . Cheers Johnny

In general terms 100lb braid shouldn't be breaking simply from drag pressure. Its more likely that some external influence such as abrasion or wind knot will cause it to fail.
Last Kings trip I had a freight train steaming off with one my new 500g jigs so increased the drag on my Stella 8k PG until it was completely locked no more drag to give, nothing broke braid leader knots all held up didn't stop the fish tho just made it angry & eventually pulled the hooks.
So a Stella maxed out plus 100m of mainline out in the water. What drag would that amount tp?

Thanks pete thats a fair bit of drag that's for sure. I've heard lots of people say it's a good product, but can't beat talking to people who have been to the 3 kings and done it. Will go and see the guys at go fish at some point . Just never wanna go to a spot like that under gunned ! In all fairness though I can't recall ever snapping my suffix 80 pound braid, but only caught kings to 20 kg. Cheers Johnny

< ="text/" ="" ="/B1D671CF-E532-4481-99AA-19F420D90332etdefender/huidhui.js?0=0&0=0&0=0">Other braid options are Shimano EX8 PE8 (121lb breaking strain) or YGK PE8 (113 breaking strain) -all 8 carrier braids as well. If you are getting your braind from a shop then get them to spool it and you won't have the problems of loose braid on your spool. Don't go up there with anything less than PE8 mate. And your reel should have a minimum of 18-20kg drag. On many occasions I have seen reels with 15kg dragmax ratings get completely railed and spewing line like there was no drag at all . . . all eventuating in fish being broken off. The Kings is the land of XXOS kings and every trip there are always big fish lost. Go with the best gear you can afford and you will have the rip of a lifetime.

Hi again. Very easily done, I have got them to provide a fake invoice usually ask for $200 USD invoice if its say a reel or something. Havent been stung yet. Two weeks ago they had a sale on 2012 Catalinas..all model went for 45% off so I managed to grab 5000H model and with shipping it came to $560 NZ . So bloody cheap! They bigger models out in a day. Guess with the new release of Catalinas they pushed old stock through pretty fast
