Yep was an awesome trip alright but never once felt un-doable or risky. All the boxes were ticked of course: Lifejackets, flares, vhf, paid coastguard membership, cellphones in waterproof pouches, informed persons on land, near new 30HP yammie and nealry every forecast saying 5-8knts.

Like Ben said there were heaps of kings about but it was just one of those days where they would look at everything and eat nothing. It didn't help that livies were very scarce and the KY that were hooked were bloody horses!
Our best shot came when a big KY workup pushed up to withing casting distance of the ledge and was getting hit by hungry kings. They were chasing and having a go at our pillies and poppers and this is where Ben hooked up. It was all looking pretty good until a boat of spearos motored right through it and then proceeded to drop over the side and push the school out into the deeper water until it disappeared (and the spearos shortly afterwards).
If you are the skipper of a boat called "Chinook" and saw us there on Saturday I would like you to understand the effort that we landbased fishos go to, to get to these ledges and fish. There are days, often weeks, of careful preparation and then hours of hard slog getting to the ledges that are then worked and fished very hard for one defining moment that is often the difference between a great adventure and a completely epic days' fishing. Your careless and completely selfish action killed that moment for us. If I thought that you did this knowingly then I would call you for a spineless arrogant git but I will give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume you are simply stupid.
However, I don't want to put too much of a negative on the story as it was a bloody awesome and very memorable day. Was great to get back to some spots that me and the bro used to fish over 20 years ago and good to know it can be done so easily. I'm sure we'll be back next time the weather permits.
