Hi all!

I will make the long journey from Sweden to New Zealand in a couple of months time, and spend about three weeks there doing ...useful things, hopefully :-)

Obviously I will have to go fishing at least once or twice during such a trip, and thus I am looking for the perfect place(s) to go. I have been looking at something like five million Fishing Charter Guide's web pages, but it's really hard to tell them all apart; the brain is overloaded with fishing information and I just find myself drooling by the screen for hours.

So, I thought I'd try this forum for some assistance!

I think my ideal fishing trip would be a single day trip, and I'd rather catch a few small something's than one immense nothing. And I would really like to find some place where you could have the catch prepared into a tasty meal afterwards, while having a beer and trying to convince my girlfriend that we really need to fish some more another day :-)

So, if any of you nice people are going "I know just the place", I'd really appreciate your assistance. Thank you very much in advance!

We will be arriving in Auckland at the very end of November, and will be spending the first days of our "New Zealand tour" there. (Recovering from jet lag no doubt.)

Giving it some thought, it would probably be wise of me to try and schedule some fishing right then and there, since I don't really know where we will go from there... We don't really have a travel plan, we hope to be able to just plan ahead a couple of days at a time during the three weeks we have in NZ. (Is that stupid by the way? Will we find ourselves sleeping on the doorstep of over-crowded hostels and BnB:s?)

Anyway, a day of fishing starting (and ending) in Auckland on the 1:st or 2:nd of December sounds like music to my ears. Add a few dolphins to amuse Charlotte (the Boss), and someone who knows how to cook a meal from the catch (if any) once we're back on dry land - and I will probably spend the rest of the time in NZ with a silly smile regardless of what else happens.

You guys are aware of my secret agenda now, to get more fishing done on a later occasion ;-), but since I won't really know when and where we will be going after Auckland I guess I'll just have to wait and see if further options show up... The Coromandel seems really cool, the Marlborough area screams "FISH" when you look at the map, and Half Moon Bay -being as far as you get- has a certain ring to it... (Which ever end of the lake your boat is, you will always go to the other end to catch fish - right?) Some trout in Lake Taupo probably wouldn't hurt either... OH, so many places to fish, so little time!

As for girlfriend's pals I am afraid I intend to travel with a relatively light luggage, thus I do not plan on bringing any extra girls on this particular journey. They would just distract us all from the fishing anyway! :-)

So, narrowing it down to Auckland the first few days of December, where is the fishing action? :-) Oh, and the romantic, perhaps candle lit, eating-the-catch action of course? ;-)
