Tackle care - preventing rust

This may have been discussed before, but it still surprises me that most people I talk to seem to accept their tackle rusting away as unavoidable and part of the fishing way of life. Available from most car accessory outlets are inexpensive spray cans of Fish Oil.

A quick spray of your hooks and lures and you can be pretty confident that they will still be there next time you go out. I wouldn't recommend using too much - just a light coat and then a mix around with the index finger will ensure enough of a coat. You might find that smaller items such as bait hooks, barrels and clips tend to stick together slightly.

You will be surprised how effective this is - and, being made of fish oil, the fish don't seem to mind the coating at all. In fact it probably acts as an attractant. The only real drawback is that your tackle now smells of fish! Surely that's a good thing though, right? Deoderised Fish Oil is available, but I haven't tried it. I'm a Fisherman, dammit - everything shoud be fishy!
