Dean from Matauri Bay motor camp has seen some good ideas in his time. Campers are reknown for their ingenuity and Kiwi's more than most...

This is such a simple idea. When you're planning to run a bait-net around in the bay and get a few fresh piper, put a small burley bag on a stick or pole and put it out close to where the piper are, or you suspect they will be.

Run the net well round the outside of the burley bag in about an hour and you'll be amazed how effective it is.

One drag filled a 10L bucket - enough bags of piper to last for quite a few trips.

Dean mentions that early morning and late evening are the best times as from a safety perspective, you don't want anyone in the water bumping into the pole/burley bag and those are better times for bait-netting anyway.
Nice one Dean!
