Chicken makes awesome berley so no doubt it would make a kick-ass bait... Only problem is if you go out and catch that big record winning moocher and have been using chicken or any other animal for bait or berley.

especially if you leave it to hang in a tree for a few days before hand. Make sure it is down wind from the washing and the kitchen.

Shimma, I'm not too sure about comps... I don't see why not. But for IGFA claims it's a no-no as far as I know... Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah, I wonder why you can use items such as poppers to catch record fish, but not chickens... wonder if you can use a rubber chicken as a lure

I can't answer the chicken question, but we were fishing off Tiri in the Hauraki Gulf when we ran short of bait.

As we were less than 50m from the shore, we baited some sabikis with bread, and cast them ashore. We hooked a real good Kakapo, which was quite fun to play while on shore, but they don't swim to good.

We used it for bait but it didn't catch anything of note, so I can only surmise that these birds are not good bait.

Nobody has ever come up with a great idea after a second bottle of water.

Carefull there Bent one, you'll give all us selfish, insensitive, drunken lechers a bad name with the hand knitted socks and leather sandals lot who prowl these sites to gather evidence to support their claims that all living things need massive reserves to protect them from us.

Besides, I thought you normally live bait with takahae. Cheers, F.T.

Difference between kinky and perverted ?, one uses a feather, the other a whole chicken.

Only thing I can see in the IGFA rules is that

The following acts will disqualify a catch:

6. Chumming with or using as bait the flesh, blood, skin or any part of mammals other than hair or pork rind used in lures designed for trolling or casting.

12. Using a size or kind of bait that is illegal to possess.

I presume 12 applies to undersized fish used as bait. I can't see any mention of NOT being able to use chicken (or any other bird).

This was taken from the IGFA rules on this site. I checked the IGFA.org site but it does not seem to have any more than that. Anyone got a more definitive view? ruling?
