standard weatherby vanguard 223, the 24inch barrel. shot 5 deer with it so far, 4 reds and a fallow and a s**t load of goats. best shot with it so far is an 8 point red stag through the neck at 250 metres on the run, and polaxed it. wicked gun

my go to was always my Tikka M55 in 222, I fitted it out with a VX111 leupold and was able to take bunnies heads off at 200m it was very accurate, I should never have sold it, shot everything bar Thar with it. cant remember the hand load ratios
My other rifle for the big stuff was my Featherweight Winchester in 7mm mag I could link every shot at 100m and was less than 1/2 minute angle at 200 which I had it at 1 inch high at 200m I was able to x hair animals out to 400m and drop them easy from memory the rounds were 140gr spear point and 56grs of 2209 dupont I think it was. I fitted it out with a 3-9 x 50 Leupold VX111, when I sold it back to gun city I put a couple of target shots with it, it sold before days end. before it would shoot I bedded the action in devcon crowned her and got a turn and 1/2 out of the barrel to the action, my hand loads were breach fitted to the case

My go-to rifle is whatever one is immediately to the right of the one in the safe that I used the last time I was out, when I get to the end of the row, it's back to the start again LOL

Anschutz 1414 .22 with a vx1 3-9-40( soon to be replaced by a vx2) would be my go to gun, shot over 2500 bunnys with it and i love it to bits, its filled the freezer with a lot of venison over the last few years. I have a 308 now so take that out when im going for deer now.

i have heard from a few gunsmiths to stay away from barnaul ammo. apparently it will eventually wreck your action and chamber. Their 308 rounds caused some mean damage to my mates rifle.

did they say why ?
"We gave Sir Peter a knighthood," Mr Key said, "And if we could give him a second one, we would."

never had probs with it, be keen to know why

was his gun a norinco or cheap chinese gun? they had problems with them because the barnaul primer was a bit harder than normal and the norincos firing pin was soft so lots of misfires, dsame as the wolf ammo but that stuff was shet. thats the only problem that i have heard of so far..........

winchester featherweight in 7mm,light and accurate.actually brought it for the missus but it so nice to use i cant leave it at home.problems with cheap ammo are normally associated with corrossion and /or ecessive residue build up as some powders arent as clean burning

Same as conners for me, just add a Hardy suppressor, I used to be a big cannon toter, should have changed years ago.
Regarding Barnaul ammo, I am using the 55gn soft point and getting the same results on the bench rest as Remmington 55gn SP.
One of my hunting mates is in pest control, so far he's put over 5000 rounds of Barnual through his Weatherby Vanguard 223 with no problems so far.

Cheers
