You will not regret buying the 5.5, if you haven't got side curtains for the top get some also.
Those that say it can't be done are being overtaken by those doing it.

Here's mine, Older hull sea nymph 13.6 with Honda 45 4 stroke full canopy and clears, Lowrance global map 5000 and Furuno FCV620 sounder, incredibly economical, been to the aldies in it, runs at 25mph with 2 up and fishing gear on board. Love it to bits easy to handle by myself, after 5 boats in the last 2 years i think Ive finally found the right one

SmileShockedErmmAfter 28 days working at sea , the anticipation was over , start of my journey from Wellington airport to keri keri to collect my new rig , Haines Hunter V198 with Yamaha 200hp . Subject to to my inspection and sea trial. Sort of goes like this
From rocking and rolling to high in the sky, plane from wellington to Auck.
Taxi to our depot to pick up the trusty land cruiser.
Driving north to ker keri via subway Wellsford.
Arrive Keri Keri around 6pm.
Check boat out , scratching my head about a few things.
Without going into detail I reluctantly walked away , I had commited a deposit but no problem there, owner payed back as agreed, $100 for outboard check gone , insurance already sorted , no worries , get refund.
I was gutted but easier to walk away now than later.
Hit the road to head south to Coromandel Town for my leave , no boatCry Cry
Feeling a little jaded passing back through Wellsford , better get a cheap hotel for the night , all booked out.
Only one thing for it , 2 big mack combo and 4 pack of red bull for the road.
2 red bulls later , driving through thames around midnight , look to the right at the yard of Hook and Anchor , fishing tackle supplies that sell the odd boat on behalf.SleepyShockedShockedTongue
Was it? It was , thats the one I saw months ago out of my price range when I still had a boat to sell.
It was "White Night" custom hard top HH V198 Sportfish with a reduced price , Karma.
Only one thing for it , camp out until yard opens in morning. After explaining to the local cops on patrol why I had my headlights on a boat in a secure yard after midnightEmbarrassed
Result, parked in my drive now , will leave it at that for now as computer on a go slow to load photos.

Would like to thank Red Bull , know its bad for you and normally dont touch the stuff but was part of the journey to have boat of my dreams.
And shout out to Dean (Pompey) who had me covered for a berth in keri Keri if required, very generous offer mate. Edit. Also to a few that pm'd since , I know I could had made a call Thumbs Up

Basically
86 HH v198 Profisher with custom hardtop. One of the nicest I have seen.Sliding glass.Wipers.
Not mind blowing Mercury 150hp EFI offshore , but tidy ,well serviced and plenty life left , custom pod,I have plans to change in a year or so.
All the usual electronics , near new multi roller trailer , braked tandem.
Overnight set up , full rare camper canopy that when sides removed slides back into hardtop.
Plumbed toilet , auto anchor , fridge , TV , cockpit showerwith 60ltr tank.
Three batteries  , one dedicated to fridge .
Bennet trim tab with indicators.
Surround sound.
2 burner cooker.
200 ltr fuel , gunna need every dropBig smileCool

Cool story bro.

Thumbs Up  No, I really mean that!

When I read your other posts about your up & coming trip, I was thinking about ways & excuses  to hook-up with you just for the road trip. (I bet I wasn't the only one).

Hi 700 LTR, did you get the canopy sorted on your boat? Looks awesome, would be keen to know who to go to to get something like this made up.

Thanks.

Haines Hunter V198 "White Knight" , welcome to your new home.

In full "Happy Wife , Happy Life" trim. Remove the sides and top of awning fame slide back into hardtop , lash up cover , unclip the rear carpet and your in "Business Mode" You can see the built in tubes in hardtop for top awning support rail to slide to a fully housed position.

Nice interior , heaps of storage. Locker in front of passenger lifts to expose 2 burner cooker.
60 ltr water tank under floor for pull out shower. The pod duckboard arrangement has standing and fishing room.

Nice tidy dash , Lowrance plotter/sounder , raymarine vhf , pioneer stereo mounted in top console. Room for more goodies.

Floor mount for table pedestal , a drop in ski pole . I think I can throw a better bait board set up together , with some storage for tackle maybe.
Nice cabin , there is a bulkhead forward for anchor locker , auto anchor a new luxury for me, getting soft. Set up for plenty of drop so hopefully no bunching of rope/chain dramas I have seen on other set ups. Still plenty of room for sleeping 2 in comfort . With camper set up room for 2 out there. Going to do a bit of overnighting. There is a quality fridge under passenger side console. Oh yeh plumbed/electric toillet.
Alot of other nice features.
Clean transom set up , lockers store 3 batteries , with switch and VSR unit , water pump for FW shower , shower nozzle at port corner in pocket .
Motor in good nick , not mint but will do for now. Will be looking at a 175 to 200 hp 4 stroke at some stage. Just going to use it for now.
Already have a few ideas about built in live bait tanks under duckboards.
Spent an hour cleaning remaining price stickers of screen , polished with RainX , need new rubbers for wipers but all working and quality brand.
Will have to do for now , getting the hint.LOL

That v198 is a mean machine mate. Remember seeing that on trademe awhile ago and thinkimg that is the best looking one i have ever seen with that custom hardtop.

As a v198 owner myself im i interested in what the profisher model has different to standard haines, never heard of it before do you know the history?

Thanks for comments fellas.
Dunwurkn , yes I saw it on trade me a while back , was in another yard with a much bigger price on it ,owner spent a small fortune on the hardtop and bits , Profisher a self appointed name I would say , got to meet owner to sort deal out , no problem to get back to him if any questions. Hardtop was done by Auckland Marine a couple years ago , it took 18months to complete , would say thats a lot of cabin and trim work included. Apparently the transom came straight with pod extension from factory , saying that I have not come across any other info to confirm that  , maybe he meant it came like that to previous owner.

Osteg , Photos?
