Hello fellas, I have a trip in 3 Kings for yellowtail and wondering how heavy the jigs are you guys using?

300-400gm.
400gm R2C Zero Droppers
Kilwell Broken Arrow 420gm
I am sure there are plenty of others, zest jigs are a good range.
Depends also on the tackle you are going to be using, if for some mad reason you want to go light, then maybe some smaller 250-300gm jigs would be useful.
Also, for shallower water light fishing, get a bunch of jigs like kavemans ones here on site.
For getting bait and livies at the Kings at anchor, get some 4-7-10gm tiny jigs, they are lethal on the koheru up there, which in turn make awesome live baits for Marlin.

Just to add the trick is to have a range of weights go as lite as you can get away with.
EG. If little or no wind & not too much current & experienced team mates fishing around you then go lite, if there's a bit of wind creating quicker drift or heapes of current or your experiencing tangles with your mates lines go heavier.

I am different to others but for me I like 500g at the Kings, big currents and big fish.

800g are good also, first to drop to the bottom and beat the other 6/7 guys on your boat doing the same thing :)

Bro that's uncanny I was gonna mention that very thing but thought I would leave it till the end of the trip & let the pics/report on Enchanters FB page do the talking. But have just put my jigs together for the trip with the range going from 250-500g simply because of having that Dogtooth AR rod on board.
Just as an aside Kane just shipped a Mutant 600 & Synit Downunda M to test up there too.
So pretty well set for anything that may come along.

Hey mate, I took the same Mutant setup from Kane to the Ranfurly last year...silky smooth and comfortiable as to jig with.

I agree with what most have said here....have a wide range.........but if you drop different weight jig to everyone else it can cause problems  eg tangles......
You want bottom weighted jigs to get down quick(unless shallow....then centre weighted)........some are easier to jig back up for their weight as well........I found Jm rocket jigs good in that regard........
If you can get away with it 400/420 will be ideal............if strong current or deep a 500 would be better......but whether you use 400 or 500 doesnt matter if you dont listen to the skip !..Sir lancelot LOL(thats providing you are going with ENCHANTER).....he will tell you what depth the fish are at and thats where having rainbow braid comes into it own...as you can count your colours down to just under where the skip said the fish are and jig up through them..............if you dont pay attention and drop to the bottom.....those 500 gram jigs will **** you up pretty quick !...you will need to pace yourself over the trip.....have jigged the kings and ranfurly..........middlesex bank is the go at the kings.
Once the idiots turn up..Im outta here...No time for Drama Queens.

Hey Joe, yep really looking forward to having a crack with the Mutant/Downunda.
Interestingly i crank left hand when using spin so as the Mutant sits in the same position as a spin I had anticipated having a problem using this cause it's right hand crank BUT did a dry run last night & low n behold it felt really natural, so am hoping I can adapt to it quickly when up at the Kings.

You don't necessarily need the heavy weights for kingfish, up to 500 should be fine. But when you are puka/bass fishing 800gm will come into it's own. Zest do an 800gm but I've even seen folks using 1kg+ recently.

Spent 11 days at the 3 kings over two trips. Same story both times. We used all the 400 and 500 gram jigs and most of the 300s or smaller stayed in the jig bags. Strong currents and deep jigging, often 100-150m.

The Deckie jigged a 15kg bluenose in 300m on a 500gm jig.

I'd suggest 400s and 500s in deep/slim patterns. 500gm at first and drop to 400gm when you get tired.

We used light jigs when mucking about around the islands in 40m for the smaller kings.

Use light jigs and light gear at your peril. If going with Enchanter, you also risk the ire of Lance and you never want to do that!
300-800 is my preferred jig range, make sure you carry the Deep Slim 800g jig otherwise jigging in 200m for those monster Bass is going to be impossible.
