As a newbie could somebody point me in the direction of an article or info on understanding where your fishing and the conditions/terrain your in?

I've been doing quite a bit of research on choosing spots for landbased fishing (have no boat but have studied the basics on how a sounder works etc) but there are a few terms i havn't quite been able to figure out.

Things such as rocky foul or guts etc - I can presume the name implies the terrain but then that's still me geussing. Do we have a common glossary or something along those lines?

I've learned to fish on incomings/mid tides at change of light with the lunar transits etc for best chances, but due to lack of experience don't know how to gauge current for choosing rigs and things. Is that just a matter of throwing your line in and seeing how it feels?

Yeah pretty much! Knowledge comes from experience but you are right to want to be pre-armed with knowledge of the basics. Fire any fishing related question at us in here and we'll do our best to answer it. The Newbies forum has been very good at helping newbies out, that's why it's here. A read through old posts may be helpful.

Foul refers to a rocky sea floor, so if you're fishing over foul you can expect snags. It's also often a great place for fish to hang out. To prevent snags you may fish close to it and draw the fish out using berley
