Does anyone have any help on targeting snapper in the Queen Charlotte Sounds?
 
Im going up there in mid Feb and looking for any good advise, would love ANY help we can get.
 
Will be staying in Waikawa and have boat

I used to have really good success in Ngakuta Bay on dusk using Spottie heads or herrings for bait, got some nice reds to 5kg and at times plenty of them - during the day never got many, but came on in that magical 8.30-10pm period.

ok cheers, did you use any burley?

what time of year? Ive heard this time of year they can be abit hard to track down because all the boats buzzing around.

Target the points, although Karaka and the Snout are very busy so I would avoid them. Same of the points in towards the grove can be productive.  

Strayline... Mullet, Kahawai or Squid before dark due to its durability, after dark can use Pilchards of Anchovies. 

Sometimes they are about in large numbers, sometimes only a few or none. At this time of year should catch a few most evenings.
