Hi,

can any one point me in the right direction about boat launching facilities from south of dunedin to the catlins region. I've done a bit of research but not finding a hell of a lot.
Probably mean that if you can get out safely then the fishing should be hot.

regards JB

From Dunedin South there's launching off the beach at Brighton, Taieri mouth, Launching off the beach at measly beach between the Tokomairiro and Clutha river mouths. Various beach launching options off the Catlins such as tautuku bay, and Waikawa harbour at the bottom of the Catlins.

I would not launch at any of these places without some local knowledge, many of them would require a tractor to launch a boat of  that size . The easiest and safest places to get out in that kind of boat would be Otago harbour and Moeraki. You could get out of Karitane also if the tides were right and shag point but it would still be interesting in a big glass tub.

thanks,

Have had a look at shag and interesting would be an understatement. Steep, unforegving and tight on the way out. Best leave a bit eariler from Moeraki and gun it south. Have now just moved to Oamaru and looks like some great spots plus some unchartered fishing deep spots. Reasonanale launching from Oamaru harbour via the NO power and yacht club key entry ramp. Plus launching at Kakauni (50/50 in a glass boat of our size) at the Kakanui offshore fishing club. Looking forward to moving the boat over. A bit busy at work as just taken over the business and leading up to xmas.
.
regards

brighton beach is not good unless a tractor is available, taieri mouth is best, out over the bar for sea fishing, or turn left for the trout, got to love that
