I think I have made my mind up on what fish finder to buy and I am almost certainly going for this one http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/Mark-Elite-Series/Mark-5X-Pro/ , before I go ahead and buy it I was wondering if any other forum members has owned one of these units or know someone that has . If not, any comments for or  against this unit from more experienced fishos would be greatly appreciated . Can anyone see any pitfalls with this unit ?

Yeah I considered them too Thumbs Up Only thing I saw as a disadvantage to the Humminbirds (500 and 700 series) was the vertical resolution is less (480 instead of 640 on the hummers).

Priced similar?

yeah mike they are priced similar , considering that a lot of the popular f/finders on the market are 320 vertical resolution I thought this would be ok .

Yeah it will for sure. I understand the lowrances are awesome units. Where I got to though was the higher the vertical res the better  (within the target price range obviously Wink ).

The Brokerage had them on T/M for $400 a couple of weeks ago
Plus you should be able to import one well under $300 they only retail in the states for around $160ish USD
